@wtg said in Ray Dalio: Billionaire hedge fund boss says other investors are too scared of Trump to speak out If anyone ever thought that corporations and the financial sector, let alone the legal profession, would put country over $$$, they had another think coming. There are a handful of corporations and wealthy people willing to do what's necessary to preserve our Democracy, but no where near enough of them. "The people" may be stupid enough to vote an imbecile and his army of dung beetles into power, but with the caving of monied interests--where lots of power resides--the average citizen is doomed. The idea that the average voter has much power these days is questionable.

@Axtremus Interesting link. Most of those chains are owned by private equity firms who are dismantling each company and stripping it for parts. Our MAGAT government is doing the same thing with the country. Coincidence?

There’s also a lady on the Repair Shop who restores paintings. It’s remarkably fine work.

@Bernard said in The stupidity of AI: AI doesn't know when it's wrong. This is one of the key points I always try to hammer on when talking about AI to my students. AI cannot evaluate the veracity of its own output. And when humans use AI, we are most often doing so when (because) we do not know something, so we are also unable to evaluate the veracity of AI output. This is a very bad combination.

That's cool. Spirograph. I want a wood lathe. Went to buy one this week but they weren't in stock. Still very interested in getting one and I'm checking Craigslist for used ones.

@Axtremus said in All Magic Has A Price -- at Disney's: Based on what we earn, we see different ads, stand in different lines, eat different food, stay in different hotels, watch the parade from different sections, and on and on. What’s profitable today is not unification. It’s segmentation. Yes, and it’s hard not to think that this is part of what’s contributing to all the other social and political division we’re experiencing

Some nice features, but what an eyesore, inside and out. Though outside is a little better.

Charles Borges, the chief data officer at the Social Security Administration, resigned Friday — days after filing a whistleblower complaint about Department of Government Efficiency employees at the SSA. He said in the complaint that the DOGE employees had uploaded a copy of the entire country's Social Security information to a "vulnerable cloud environment." Borges' resignation from the SSA was confirmed by the Government Accountability Project, which is providing his legal representation. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/social-security-admin-chief-data-officer-resigns-after-filing-whistleblower-complaint/

Froome is a great in the cycling world. Sad this happened. Just to make this about me; I bought a mountain bike in Tucson. Read that a guy my age asked about bike crashes. He was told, "You might live." Think I will consign the bike when I get back to Tucson.
