RE: Brings to mind the 70s feminist trope: "men are pigs"
Wow. That's tragic. It doesn't absolve him in any way, but assuming what he said is true, it sort of answers some of the why.
“Today I maintain that, along with the other men here, I am a rapist,″ Dominique Pélicot told the court. “They knew everything. They can’t say otherwise.”
Good, let them all be prosecuted to the fullest extent of French law. (Which I know nothing about, but I hope incurs punishments in keeping with the severity of their crimes)

RE: Remember this house?
OMG!! I do remember that house, all that mold!!

Here's the original listing. Not sure how long it will stay up now that the remodeled house is up for sale:
I can't imagine leaving that up! The RE agent should have tried to get it taken down before listing.
I can't imagine buying that house... well not without a very, very clear understanding of what caused the water damage and assurances that it wouldn't reoccur. That basement makes me nervous.
Having said all that, they did an amazing job with it! I'm sure the neighbors are pleased!

RE: That's some expensive balsamic vinegar
We have neither a Trader Joes nor a Costco around here

RE: That's some expensive balsamic vinegar
Yep, we once bought some balsamic (mid-priced, like in the $25-range) and it was awful. It even came highly recommended. But after that, we pretty much don’t buy it, even though there are some dishes we might use it with if we had some that we liked. (Of course Mr SK cooks mostly Asian style< which rarely calls for that)
But I’m not keen to experiment on much beyond maybe $5…

I might ask why it was installed that way, but it by itself wouldn't frighten me too much.
Not me. I have trust issues.

Turns out he's a flipper and he bought the house to rehab. His parents will be moving in when it's finished.
The best kind of flipper, because you know he'll be conscientious!
There is a couple who flip houses in a town near where we used to live, they're from the area and truly just seem to love making their old neighborhoods better. They are beloved by locals because all the houses they do end up improving the neighborhood for everyone.
I have no doubt they're making good money, but they also clearly care about the quality of the work they do. No "lipstick on a pig" for them, they replace the pig first!

RE: Interesting fan installation
@Steve-Miller and @wtg yep.
Based on my experience with the first house we bought, which we loved but was very the victim of an idiot DIYer, I was very aware of those kinds of sketchy things when house hunting this time around.
Our new house has not yet yielded any of those, and at this point, I don’t think there are any.
We are very grateful to the previous owners and their loving — and smart — care and maintenance of this house!
