Greetings from Boston!

Actually Cambridge right now. We’re here for my Daughter-in-laws Commencement. She’s graduating from Harvard! Technically Harvard Extension but that’s still pretty terrific!
It wasn’t easy - she had to study after 10 PM after my grandson went to bed. Good grades too - 1 B and the rest A’s.

These are my children. Yikes! I’m so happy that they still like each other.

Having processed the events of the last 24 hours:
We listened to any number of speeches and I read a most excellent newspaper, the Harvard Crimson, cover to cover (it’s on paper -real paper), and I’ve decided that the current situation is nothing but a blip. The kids are all right - they’ve been taught that they can change the world and I’ll be damned if they don’t believe it. They’re gonna do it, too. I daresay the academics among us will agree.
Boston isn’t Ohio. It’s not even California. There’s a pulse, a beat, a shared belief that things are good, opportunities abound, and there’s no reason to dwell on the temporary distraction that is Washington. I talked with as many people as would listen and I’m encouraged. Boston has seen it all - since like 1675 - and this too will pass.
There’s money here. Lots of money, but it’s not like Beverly Hills, maybe more like West LA. It’s quiet, confident. No Kardashian clones, no bling. Few Mercedes, no Lambos. Lots of bookstores, no “luxury” stores that have infested so many other cities we’ve visited. These people are confident, secure, and don’t need to show off. So different from South Florida and way different from Ohio.
Maybe it’s the Harvard thing but I find the diversity refreshing. Nice to hear other languages spoken again - doesn’t happen in Ohio. The stores, restaurants, the bars - so much fun! Spanky wants to destroy this but he will not succeed - not in Boston. Maybe not anywhere.
This has been a good trip.
