Covid comes to the SK household

MrsTuner and I have each had Covid a couple of times without much discomfort. We've never passed it from one to another - and we never masked at home or slept apart from each other. Go figure.

That's good to hear! As I mentioned, this is a first for our household, after all these years!

Wow! Well, I am hoping I don't get it. I sure would like to 1) not get sick, and 2) go to my conference as scheduled!

I got covid last fall, before I’d had a chance to get the vaccine. Fever and felt pretty awful for a few days. Made sure I got both flu and Covid vaccines early this year. This year, the Covid vaccine made my arm really sore for a couple of days, and I barely noticed the flu one. Hope you can keep from catching it!

If he's not feeling terrible now he's not likely to. I've had it four times now, once from a funeral and three times flying, and only spent one day in bed. I believe the vaccines do what they are supposed to.

You say Mr. SK got the vaccine and still got Covid? That’s not how it’s supposed to work.

Actually, that is how it works.
From Mayo Clinic:
Getting a COVID-19 vaccine helps to keep you healthy. The vaccine protects against serious illness, the need for hospital care due to COVID-19 and death from COVID-19.

It may help some people to not get sick at all, but as importantly, it reduces the severity if you do get it. As @mik said, no worse than a day or two of feeling poorly, rather than getting severely ill and needing to be hospitalized. Especially important as we get older, as our immune systems are not as robust and we can't fight off various bugs as well as we did when we were younger.

@andyd - were those cases (yours and the person who got long covid) a while back? I thought that the current variants tend to be far less serious, more along the lines of the average case of the flu.

Yes, nowadays people seem to have effective herd immunity. A work colleague of my sister had covid confirmed and we then wondered if the latest cold we've had was covid.
