My mother came over and Mr SK made toshi-koshi soba (year’s end soba noodles) for dinner. We visited for a while, she went home at 8pm maybe. Then we watched a movie, and were in bed 11pm. 😅

Today we’ll take down our christmas trees (which will break my heart) while watching a recording of the 4-hour New Year’s Eve Japanese song contest Kohaku.

Taking down the tree makes me sad too. I also do it on New Year’s Day. It’s quite beautiful this year (even though the lower limbs are sparse and it’s slightly crooked - we cut it in the forest south of town) and I finally realized how much I hate LED christmas lights (the brightness and intensity of the colors) and I purchased some good old mini incandescents like I used to put on the tree. It made me very happy.

Went to live theater to see a matinee of Sister Act with another couple. Shared a nice Vietnamese dinner afterwards and was home around 8!

Went to a friend’s house for dinner and ping pong. Three couples, the women know each other and Mr. AM was the newbie to the group. Home by 10:30. Good night, and happy new year!

Those are the best! The warm color tone is much nicer than the harsh white led light.

Our trees are all put away.

This year I had 446 ornaments between the two trees. Plus two tree toppers. 😅

We have the pearl globe ones. I love them and will never change so long as I can still but replacements.

SK and Mik, I like your trees!

Ours is now out for composting. Sorry, no pics. We don’t hang ornaments any more (time intensive), just lights. We also have lights around the front porch.

I love your tree, Jodi, how pretty! Yours too Mik. I like those lights. I'm partial to the incandescents too. This year and last I went with the pre-strung leds on the artificial tree. I may go back to a real tree next year. I also love the large, old fashioned bulbs such as I remember from my earliest years.

I'll keep my tree and most of the decor up until Twelfth Night, which is Tuesday.

Trees haven’t been right since we stopped using tinsel.

                        Remember tinsel?

@Steve-Miller I do and I loved the look! The lead content wasn't such a good thing, though. Mylar tinsel is available but doesn't have the same look, imo.

Talking of good old fairy light incandescents, I had to replace two bulbs this year. And they just blew again last night.

But I love them so, from around 1956, nursery rhyme bells that my parents had on our tree for years, these:
