I wonder if the argument that serifs make text easier to read is related to the notion that cursive handwriting is better for the flow of ideas. After all, they both involve extra strokes that guide you from one letter to the next.

@Mary-Anna Yes, it took a few months to completely recover but all is well now. I'm interested in how COVID (the disease and/or the vaccine) affects our bodies, especially in light of my own reaction to the vaccine. When I saw the results of this admittedly early study it just brought home once again how complex and how individual our responses are to various pathogens and treatments (vaccines, medications, etc.). The tofu remark was a bit tongue-in-cheek, but I did wonder if there might come a day when someone could front load with tofu (probably in a pill rather than a stir fry) before getting a COVID vaccine, so they could get the benefits of the vaccine without possible negative effects..

@chas Alcohol sales in Ontario (and I believe most other Canadian provinces) are all controlled by arms length government entities that import and manage the sale of liquor. Here you can only buy spirits from the LCBO (short for Liquor Control Board of Ontario). Beer and prepackaged mixed drinks, up until a couple years ago, were only sold at LCBO (depending on the alcohol content) and the Beer Store (privately owned by brewers, but isn’t allowed to sell spirits. For example, Twisted Tea, a hard canned iced tea, is made with malt liquor if you buy it at the beer store, but vodka at the LCBO). Wine is its own category and has been sold in little kiosks in some grocery stores for a number of years but the stores are separate from the grocery and they are only allowed to sell products from their own winery. Distilleries, wineries, and breweries are allowed to sell their products in their on site stores as well. Recently, wine, beer, and packaged mixed drinks (again, depending on alcohol content) have been allowed into grocery and convenience stores. TLDR: The Government of Ontario controls the sale of spirits in Ontario. It is similar in other provinces.

The farmer who farms most of my land is very anti-Trump. The other two are morons politically. I asked one whether he was mad at Trump yet. The answer was "huh". The third reminds me of Putin.

@Bernard I think he's claiming that it was carrying oil to Iran, defying sanctions. He claims a lot of things but I don't believe much of any of it.

Looking like more good news, this time from Georgia. Democrat Eric Gisler claimed an upset victory Tuesday in a special election in a historically Republican Georgia state House district. Gisler said he was the winner of the contest, in which he was leading Republican Mack “Dutch” Guest by about 200 votes out of more than 11,000 in final unofficial returns. Robert Sinners, a spokesperson with the secretary of state’s office, said there could be a few provisional ballots left before the tally is finalized. “I think we had the right message for the time,” Gisler told The Associated Press in a phone interview. He credited his win to Democratic enthusiasm but also said some Republicans were looking for a change. “A lot of what I would call traditional conservatives held their nose and voted Republican last year on the promise of low prices and whatever else they were selling,” Gisler said. “But they hadn’t received that.” https://apnews.com/article/georgia-house-special-election-gisler-guest-046d2fe14eab0cbe4ce10afd66827020
