    @Piano-Dad no clue

Well, if the police found him, there will be a public record of the court proceedings. I presume hit and run will wind up in court.

@Piano-Dad I'm not convinced there will be criminal charges. I only know they caught the guy because it was on the police report I requested.

There should be, especially if you contact the police to press them.

I do not have any information except his name and address from the police report. I didn't even really know how they got him.

Yes but the app asked if I wanted my insurance or his to handle it, assuring me I could change my mind later. I stupidly said his. Now there is no way in the app to change this and the office has been closed all weekend, so I have to call tomorrow. I've left messages, but really need to talk to a person.

Ugh. Insurance by apps is a problem.

Time to start working toward talking to a human.

Agreed. I'm willing to pay what it costs to have an agent.

Glad you're ok, but yeah...I've been advised to just have your insurance company deal with damages...and make going after the offender your insurance companies problem. People that drive irresponsibly are often the same type that have [outdated] legal minimums for insurance if any. Makes resolving this stuff that much more a hassle.

Yeah--I agree with this advice. I wasn't thinking clearly.

Update--was able to talk to a human this am and my insurance co is sending out an inspector tomorrow. So I think I'm good

Insurance is covering the repair and waiving the deductible. Now I have to choose a body shop. There is such a thing as a Toyota Certified Collision repair shop, which does NOT include all Toyota dealers. There is also a network of body shops in my insurance company's network, but they haven't given me the list yet. Since the car is still under all the warrantees, I'm thinking of talking it to the dealer where I bought it which IS a Toyota certified collision shop but is NOT in the insurance network. Open to advice here.

Will insurance pay a shop that isn’t in the network?

Finally got the car back. Almost $8k all told. No hassles with insurance. Did pay for a rental out of pocket for three weeks. There were a couple of tweaks I asked the shop to make before I drove off--sensors were at an uneven depth and there was tape residue on a trim piece they masked off during painting. Looks good though. Less than 2300 miles on it and it looks new again.

Still very wary of pickup trucks driving behind me though.

I'm glad all is well with the car. How are you feeling?

I was rear ended last October and I am still dealing with whiplash. For the first two weeks I didn't think I was seriously hurt. Then I went for a standard chiro visit for something else and what was usually painless was excruciating. The chiropractor diagnosed me as having severe lateral whiplash. I also found I started having a fear of driving and flashbacks to the moment of impact. Don't say you aren't injured too soon.

I'm surprised at the advice here to use your own insurance. I didn't--I used the at fault driver's insurance company, because my own insurance company said they couldn't promise I wouldn't see a rate hike because of the accident.

My car also was brand new--only 3,000 miles on it--and I had the same kind of repairs as you. I called the dealer to get their recommendation for a body shop. Luckily it was one on the insurance company's list. I could use any shop I wanted but if it wasn't on their list I would have to pay out of pocket and then get reimbursed. The shop did a beautiful job.

I still haven't settled with the insurance company. My chiro advised me to not settle until my condition is back to where it was before the accident. The insurance company volunteered that I can ask for compensation for distress, inconvenience, and "pain and suffering."

Oh yuck, I'm so sorry to hear that. I really am ok, but it could easily have gone another way for me like it did for my sister last year who is still recovering from getting tboned.

The insurance was seamless. They took care of everything so I didn't have to deal with the other driver or his insurance at all. They even waived my deductible since it was clearly the other driver's fault. They may raise our insurance because we had another car totaled this year--not in an accident--moonroof switch didn't work, car got drenched, and the electrical system was hosed. A few years ago, we had a catalytic converter stolen. It is what it is. We'd gone for many years before that without any accidents or incidents.

I hope you get some relief. Totally understand about the anxiety driving AND the flashbacks.
