The system has glitched on a on a periodic basis but a tacitly partisan approach to changing it is DOA.

@AndyD Thanks @RealPlayer Hi @Steve-Miller, I remember you too. Things are OK thanks. I didn't comment in your thread about Rory but I found it very interesting. I hope he can overcome his challenges and make the most of his talents.

HPS lights like that have fallen out of favor because LEDs are so much cheaper to operate. It’s not much of a consideration for a household porch light but for parking lot and street lighting it’s a big deal. You can tell how much electricity costs in a particular area by what color the street lights are. In my town power is dirt cheap and the light in front of my house is a warm yellow HPS lamp. When the crew came out to replace it I asked why they weren’t installing a modern LED and was told that my municipality scored a deal on thousands of HPS lamps on closeout (likely because no one wants them anymore) and would be using HPS far out in to the future. Fly in to LA and it’s a completely different story. Power in LA is fabulously expensive and pretty much every light in town has been changed out. We did a pretty good business changing them out before I retired.

@wtg I grew up catching stripers in the Chesapeake Bay. Best tasting fish there is, IMO.

@Steve-Miller There are state and federal laws about child pornography. It is a crime to possess it. So it seems it would be a crime to post it. I'm talking about censorship by way of labeling legitimate opinions on any topic as-- "misinformation" and censoring political speech, for example-- not allowing criticism of the state of Israel under the guise of falsely labeling it as-- "antisemitism."

By now "switched at birth" stories have many precedents. Not that that makes it easy emotionally for the people evolved; but there should be templates to trace on how to go forward practically. Chances are they will be fine.

@Steve-Miller said in DOGE will be a test: I’m so old I remember the Grace commission. They came up with any number of good ideas that went exactly nowhere. This latest iteration is DOA. Yea, DOGE is listed in the See Also section of the Wikipedia entry for the Grace Commission.

I agree with Cindy's post. It is the Democrats and only the Democrats who have let identity politics displace concern for the fact every one is being unjustly pressured by issues of economic fairness and justice. Of course the Republicans take advantage of this nonsense.

Interesting! I love opera. I have the discernment for it not to be modest but have an inability to concentrate enough to listen to one from beginning to end. My inability would be worse at a live performance. It would be a diaster. I choose which ones I listen to carefully listen to them in segments and they always end up being recordings of live performances. Someone once made an interesting comparison between opera and rock/ pop. She said the performance of rock/ pop is on an elevated stage whereas with opera it is reversed and the audience is elevated over the stage. I'm not sure what this might mean but pop is also one of my favorite genres. My 301's had one front facing driver with two small ones on the side one of which faced the back wall, iirc. I was happy with them. It was the last time I had a system per se. I miss having one.

Important to remember that the listener has a different expectation from the performer. (I'm still working on that one!) “The amateur believes he must first overcome his fear; then he can do his work. The professional knows that fear can never be overcome. He knows there is no such thing as a fearless warrior or a dread-free artist.” ― Steven Pressfield
