Some brave soul took it upon himself to clean and tune the public piano at O’Hare Airport. Holy cow, the abuse this piano must have endured.

I’ve actually seen this piano, the last time I was there, it was closed up. I think I'll be flying through O’Hare again in March, hopefully I can see the piano while I’m there and maybe play it. Assuming no one spills their drink on it before then… Speaking of public pianos, the piano at the airport in Charlotte often has someone playing it (i.e., not a random traveler, but someone who is at the airport specifically to play the piano for tips, hopefully not only for tips). Anyway, I always had the impression that that piano was fairly well-maintained. I don’t think I’ll be flying through there again anytime soon though, so i may never see it again.

@Rontuner I hope the none of the pianos you regularly encounter are this bad!

Oh, I've dealt with worse... But not on a regular basis!

        That's fortunate!!

I can't imagine dealing with something like that on a regular basis!

I can't imagine anything at O'Hare got cleaned.

Quite a public service, even if it serves his YouTube channel.

It's probably a tribute to the piano maker that it held up as well as it did under that abuse.

Reminded me of OT and the pianos he maintained/had on life support at the Shout House.

Indeed! To your other point, yep, I was really surprised that it survived. I'd love to know how old it was. Apparently it's a Kimble.

@wtg ah yes, the Shout House pianos!

I don’t know if this is the same piano I used to see at O’Hare. If it used to be black, it probably is! I hadn’t seen it with the white skin on it.

Surely, some organization is responsible for this piano. How horrid they let it sit in this condition. Wouldn't they have a budget for it?

@Bernard good question, Bernard. I could imagine that the bar arranged for it to be there some years ago, then the bar changed ownership or a manager quit, and the new person in charge didn’t care or just let it slip down the priority list…
