...or to buy a pasta machine....guess I shouldn't have sold mine some years ago...

Your favorite Italian-origin fusilli and macaroni are poised to disappear from U.S. supermarket shelves.

Italy’s biggest pasta exporters say import and antidumping duties totaling 107% on their pasta brands will make doing business in America too costly and are preparing to pull out of U.S. stores as soon as January. The combined tariffs are among the steepest faced by any product targeted by the Trump administration.

“It’s an incredibly important market for us,” said Giuseppe Ferro, La Molisana’s chief executive, whose family-run pasta factory sits on the edge of the southern Italian town of Campobasso. “But no one has those kinds of margins,” he said, shaking his head as the sweet, nutty smell of freshly ground wheat berries permeated his factory.

I know that this pasta company is made in the US (and the ones I have had have been excellent!) I’m currently not buying from them because I’m trying to support non-US companies here in Canada, but it might be helpful to US based folks here: https://www.sfoglini.com/pages/contact-us

A bit of flour, egg, salt, and oil. Less than an hour of work.

            The industrial revolution cheapened everything.

I'll stock up. For one thing, I wonder if the types of wheat used in Europe tend to be different. And I've tried some American brands that taste distinctly inferior, though I certainly haven't tried them all.

Apparently it's only some brands. (We could all do with less pasta anyway.)

Yea, but it's basically all the big ones.

The Italian groceries, of which we have many (they don’t call it Staten Italy for nothing) are going to be unhappy.

I'll order it from Italy. Problem solved.

Has anyone else heard the lie/ myth we're all getting a $2000 "tariff check?"

Trump cuts tariffs on beef, coffee and other foods as inflation concerns mount

Haven't checked to see if pasta is in the mix.

Bob says the wheat in Italian pasta is different and the water used is different.
                            Bob is not happy.

The little Italian market I popped into yesterday had DiCecco at $4/lb. The proprietor said next week it will be $8.

On the other hand, today I was in my usual Key Foods supermarket and DiCecco was on sale at 2 packages for $5. I bought two but may go back for more. Lately it’s been $3.79/lb. there.
