I just read that they know where the truck came from because they recorded everywhere it was charged along the way.

The structural integrity probably saved some lives. From a cnn article:
*“ McMahill said the Cybertruck’s body construction significantly reduced damage in the hotel valet area, as most of the blast was directed upward, leaving the building’s front glass unbroken during the explosion.

“The fact that this was a Cybertruck really limited the damage that occurred inside of the valet because it had most of the blast. Up through the truck and out,” he said. “You’ll see that the front glass doors at the Trump hotel were not even broken by that blast which they were parked directly in front of.”

“I have to thank Elon Musk specifically,” McMahill added, noting that Tesla Motors’ CEO gave authorities “quite a bit of additional information,” including directly sending them video from its charging stations to help with their efforts to track the driver.

”We have now confirmed that the explosion was caused by very large fireworks and/or a bomb carried in the bed of the rented Cybertruck and is unrelated to the vehicle itself,” Musk said in a post on X.

“All vehicle telemetry was positive at the time of the explosion,” Musk added, referring to the automaker’s system that collects and transmits data about a vehicle’s performance and status in real time and can monitor mileage and track the distance traveled, among other features.*

I'm glad to hear Tesla cooperated with the FBI, but shouldn't these announcements come from the FBI and not President Musk?

My daughter’s friends just checked out of that place the previous day.

If you need a truck that can take a hit you now know what to buy. Thanks Elon.

Had that same thought, @CHAS . Terrorist can rent an armored vehicle for future projects. Good news is that we'll know where they have been...

Of course in this case, the durability did probably mean the people who were nearby weren't badly injured.

And we already have the defining moment of 2025.

Cyber truck explodes and burns in front of a Trump hotel on January 1:

                Indeed. -_-

@Mik that's terrifying! Glad your daughter's friends were gone before this happened!

The Tesla Cybertruck that exploded Wednesday in front of Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas — which was left burned out but largely intact — has invited a wave of online praise for its tough steel exterior. Seven bystanders were injured, but the only fatality was inside the truck. Even the hotel’s glass front doors were spared.

“Cybertruck actually contained the explosion and directed the blast upward,” Tesla chief executive Elon Musk said in a social media post on X late Wednesday, echoing earlier comments from a city sheriff.

But the surprising lack of damage caused by the blast is also a function of the apparently low-grade explosives used in the incident, according to experts who spoke to The Washington Post.

A blast caused by fireworks and fuel might have had a similar effect had it been in a different vehicle, said electric-vehicle experts Richard Meier of Meier Fire Investigations and Karl Brauer, executive analyst at ISeeCars.com.

Videos of the event indicate that a lot of heat was generated by an initial explosion, followed by a subsequent fire in the bed of the truck that could have come from batteries overheating, noted Brauer.

                              His story is pretty tragic.

While the photo with the Musk/Trump caption is funny in one respect, I'm regretting a bit that I posted it because after reading his story I can't stop thinking of him dying in the vehicle. :😞
