Meeting another couple in the suburbs for an early dinner, then back home for some bubbles and tv... Normal bedtimes here!

Iâm sipping my afternoon prosecco while Iâm puttering around in the kitchen. Just made Smitten Kitchenâs olive oil brownies , havenât tasted them yet.
Edit: the brownies are fantastic. More deeply chocolatey than the usual Smitten Kitchen Favorite Brownies (butter based). Still warm, couldnât wait to sample!
Also making some crispy baked tofu to go with tonightâs roasted vegetables (cauliflower/brussels sprouts/sweet potato) with a vinaigrette dressing. How virtuous! A far cry from Mikâs steaks. (Mr. AM is a weekday vegetarian; we had our prime rib cheater last week for Christmas.)
May pop some actual champagne tonight, or Mumm Napa. We shall see. Mr. AM doesnât love bubbly the way I do.

Happy New Year!
I'm not usually retired before 1 am, so I'll be up to see the New Year in. It's been a lovely day, really. Time with Cielo, sewing, piano. And we're in a mild streak weather-wise, high of 44, low of 34 tonight. Very lovely.
Here is a poem for this evening (and probably many days to come!)....
The Peace of Wild Things
by Wendell BerryWhen despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my childrenâs lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free. -

No plans. Maybe some scotch just before we turn in. Will we make it to the ball drop? Who knows!
(Lived in NY City for 40 years but have never done the NYE Times Square thing. Actually, locals try to avoid Times Square all year long.)

Saw Queer starring Daniel Craig this afternoon. Expected several sex explicit
scenes after reading the reviews.
Nope. I was surprising seeing a popular movie star doing those non-explicit scenes.
Drugs, including alcohol were constant, not sex. Burroughs wrote Junkie, not a sex book.
The movie was well done, not surprised the reviews were positive. Daniel Craig is due the recognition he is getting for his acting. tv
We stopped at a Flower Child for a light dinner and we are home watching the celebrations on TV. May stay until 10; there are clothes in the drier. -

Chas, I really want to see Queer. I admire Burroughsâ work and I respect Craig for seeking out the part. Great review on NPR.

Happy New Year
My younger daughter just said with a tinge of sadness
"Ah well, another year over" -
