Bluesky

Planning to get it. Done with Twitter.

Never had Twitter. I am only on Facebook (and here). Leery of engaging in another internet distraction.

I have been on BlueSky for a little while. It's a lot better than Twitter (X). No bots. No trolling (so far). I got on some "starter packs" so my follower count is moving up nicely among the people I really want to talk to .... reporters, economists, and people who study higher education in general.

I had been on twitter since 2006 and deactivated my account last week. Moved over to bsky as other educators in my circles did. Reminds me of old twitter. The starter packs are fantastic for following specific kinds of accounts.

@wtg Thanks for posting this, I'll give it a read.
I'm a little skeptical because I have never found BlueSky to be as engaging or as relevant to me as Twitter used to be back before it became a total cesspool...
@ShiroKuro
Must agree. Bluesky left me wanting to get out of there. -
FWIW I love it. I feel so much better informed than before I joined.

I’m still trying to adjust my feed in Bluesky. I follow a lot of knitting accounts, and they follow me, but they don’t post. I follow a few news/political accounts, and they post A LOT. So it’s not a very relaxing experience.
I’m on Threads, too. I know, it’s another Meta platform. It’s amusing. But I’m pretty sure views of my stuff is throttled there, much like on FB, as far as knitting goes. I get way more reactions on Bluesky, even though I have fewer followers on Bluesky.

I may need to try to follow more accounts or something...
@ShiroKuro I use the discover tab mostly. I do get more soft porn anime drawings than I really need to see, and for a while I was getting bear pictures (not the hibernating kind).
@AdagioM I do overdo it with the doomscrolling. As choochiefingers says, there's always so much doom to scroll.
I try to post flower pictures and tag them #bloomscrolling
