WaPo dies in darkness

This article is obviously nonsense and the only reason I can see they ran it is to please their owner. There are cheerleading articles like it every few days now.
Kind of sad to watch.

I agree @Steve-Miller sad, and gross.

I've seen many posts suggesting that all of those people that voted for Trump will soon have buyer's remorse when.....The economy tanks, or this or that thing happens or Trump doesn't "fix" something that they were so passionate about during the election season. That ignores the power of the media and information bubbles to divert attention....

Yep. I mean, I hope people have "buyer's remorse" (voter's remorse), but that requires them to be paying attention.
I was reading somewhere else about how the country has the appropriate checks and balances to prevent the worst of Trump's authoritarian plans, but it will require people to be paying attention to ensure those checks and balances function as intended.... This makes me very pessimistic, because I don't think most people are interested in paying attention, and especially not for four years....

paying attention to what, exactly? The news?
Good point.
So, what about the rest of us? What should we be doing that counts as "paying attention" in a way that will help us ensure those checks and balances do their job? Or, what are we supposed to be doing to make sure those checks and balances do their job when the time comes?
I mean this as a sincere question. Not just to Ron btw, to all of us.

I cancelled my WaPo subscription when Bezos decided to censor his editorial board. Lost all respect. I have a NYTimes subscription but have only checked in once or twice since the election.... 24/7 news requires a lot of constantly talking heads and I just can't cope with it right now. In lieu of WaPo, I've gone over to The Guardian to see how that goes. I also follow TMP, and Robert Reich's substack. Need to check out MeidasTouch one of these days, I hear good things about it. I get snippets of news (small doses for now, thank you) from a gay site that has an overnight open thread.
Perhaps it's more of a wish than a prediction, but I won't be surprise if the new administration oversteps and shoot themselves in the foot. I think they're going to self implode.
-
@Bernard I walked away from WaPo and NYT a few years ago and am looking for new sources.
A few of us are reading Tangle.
I'm also trying out The Guardian.
Thanks for the info about TMP, Reich, and Meidas Touch. Will check them out.

What is TMP? Talking Points Memo?
-
@RealPlayer Oops. Yes, TPM, Talking Points Memo.
