They'll pay attention to the price of eggs. And gas.

That's exactly the point - paying attention to what, exactly? The news? There are plenty that believe Trump did a great job at everything the first time because they were paying attention to what they believed was the truth...
Ugh.

Good point.
So, what about the rest of us? What should we be doing that counts as "paying attention" in a way that will help us ensure those checks and balances do their job? Or, what are we supposed to be doing to make sure those checks and balances do their job when the time comes?
I mean this as a sincere question. Not just to Ron btw, to all of us.

I cancelled my WaPo subscription when Bezos decided to censor his editorial board. Lost all respect. I have a NYTimes subscription but have only checked in once or twice since the election.... 24/7 news requires a lot of constantly talking heads and I just can't cope with it right now. In lieu of WaPo, I've gone over to The Guardian to see how that goes. I also follow TMP, and Robert Reich's substack. Need to check out MeidasTouch one of these days, I hear good things about it. I get snippets of news (small doses for now, thank you) from a gay site that has an overnight open thread.
Perhaps it's more of a wish than a prediction, but I won't be surprise if the new administration oversteps and shoot themselves in the foot. I think they're going to self implode.

A few of us are reading Tangle.
I'm also trying out The Guardian.
Thanks for the info about TMP, Reich, and Meidas Touch. Will check them out.

The NYT and The Washington Post are mouthpieces for the CIA not that there are not countless others but these two are easy to avoid.

I encourage all of you to check out ProPublica, if you haven't already. Best reporting I've seen in a long, long time.

He got away with everything.
This story is horrifying.
The fact he used what he claimed to be Catholicism in the practice of medicine is bad enough but the fact he was acting as a cult leader is even worse.
Wow.

Bezos obviously knows how to run a commerce machine but his approach seems most likely to kill a journalistic enterprise.

WaPo now has the company of ABC who has lost their credibility as well. We're in trouble when the media is owned by wealthy individuals or huge multi-national corporations.

Absolutely did see the ProPublica story about St Peter's hospital and Dr. Death. The whole town is in an uproar over it.
