That's interesting,I didn't know that either. I've always gotten either Pfizer or Moderna, so I hadn't been paying attention.

At the end of the day, though, at least those Novavax fans are still getting vaccinated! So many people are not.

Re side effects, (apologies if I already shared this), I got the updated covid shot a few weeks ago, and I didn't get it with the flu shot. I had a much easier time than last year, when I got the flu and covid shots together. That knocked me out for several days, but this year, I was a little crummy (though not quite feverish) in the evening of the shot, but totally fine the next day.

We're getting our flu shots tomorrow, so hopefully I'll be ok then as well.

Got my Covid shot 2 1/2 weeks ago. Got a hematoma and a bruise on my arm from it (first time that’s ever happened) so I was sore. But felt fine otherwise. Will get the flu shot next.

DIY flu vaccine approved, available next year.

Sadly, I'm not in the age range that it's approved for...

Oop, neither am I. I wonder why that's the age range.

Also, this is the same nasal spray version that's already available for in-person administration right? How does it compare to the shot in terms of efficacy?

Yes, it's the same one that's been available for a while. Here's some history on it.

            https://www.goodrx.com/flumist-quadrivalent/flumist-nasal-spray-flu-vaccine-effectiveness-side-effects-cost

For people over 65, there's a high-dose injectable flu vaccine. I guess we oldsters don't have as robust an immune system so the higher dose helps kick start things. I never get the high-dose vaccine even though I'm over 65 because I tend to react very strongly to vaccines in general like my mom did. She got the high dose one year and it knocked her on her butt for days.

I suspect I would do fine with FluMist, but I'm not sure if they'd send it to me because I'm not in the right age bracket...

I got the Covid 19 booster on Wednesday. Opera season and a World Music Festival are starting up here. They get crowded and I don’t want to go unprotected. I requested Pfizer because all my previous Covid shots were Pfizer. Pfizer wasn’t available at the CVS drug store chain which administered the shot so I got the Moderna vaccine instead which is interchangeable with Pfizer.

My arm was sore and I had body ache for about a day and a half afterward but it’s better than catching a Covid.

Too late. Never saw that T line turn red so fast. Feel like a truck hit me. Vaxxed up until about last fall, had it I think this is either the third or fourth time. I should be able to mount a pretty robust immune defense.

                    @Mik Get well soon.

I don't get the mRNA vaccinations.

I did finally get my first in a series of three Hepatitis A/B vaccinations. They're on a schedule of 0, 1, and 6 months. I'd be done now if I hadn't procrastinated.

I still wear masks. My supply was dwindling. RM brought his mother's car here the other day (before he totaled it). I found a new box of masks in the trunk. I took about 1/3 of them.

We got our flu shots this morning.

Now I really need to make time for the shingles shots.... Ugh, I'm really not looking forward to it!

Trying to decide when to get the next COVID shot... Maybe mid-october? Just got the flu shot last week when I went to my "welcome to Medicare" appointment with a new doctor (in the neighborhood) - sore arm and headache the next day.

Can you find info about how much is circulating locally? I read somewhere (NYTs maybe?) that the recommendation was to get the covid show soon (early or mid-Sept) because of how much virus was circulating. OTOH it said that the flu shot could wait until late Sept or October.

Probably need to factor in travel and holiday plans, too.

When all is said and done though, I suspect just getting the shots is what's most important, more than getting the timing exact...

I got the Covid vax (Moderna) a couple weeks ago, because we’re traveling again. I hadn’t had one since December. The shot gave me a hot arm (red, warm) for a week! My previous was Pfizer, no reaction.

I’m waiting for a flu shot in late October.

                              Do y’all get RSV vax?

Please in Florida think you have COVID if you're wearing a mask. I don't wear one 100% of the time but I really should because I read cases are rising here.

They save me from breathing lots of particulates from pollution and vehicle exhaust too.

My PCP says they don't work. He won't let me wear one in the examining room. I think they help and can't hurt.

I'm going to be more consistent about wearing them.

My lungs are compromised because I'm an ex- smoker and I wouldn't rule out having some kind of auto-immune disorder too.

Wow that sounds awful. You might want to mention that to a provider or at the least, the next time you get a vax, stay in the store for a bit afterwards to make su rehou don’t have a full blown allergic reaction.

CDC recommends everyone ages 75 and older get an RSV vaccine. CDC recommends adults ages 60–74 who are at increased risk of severe RSV disease get an RSV vaccine

The hot red spot was just the back of my arm, about as big as the palm of my hand. It didn’t keep me from doing anything; it was just annoying.

Well that’s good… I just thought it sounded like a mild allergic reaction. I might be a little paranoid about that kind of thing though… 😅
