I survived my two classes, whew!

I can actually tell it's starting to work its way out, I should be fine by tomorrow, or maybe even by bedtime. Probably teaching actually helped, as awful as it was earlier today!

Now home and see if I have any energy after dinner to play the piano.... I have a multi-week streak going here!

Shingrix? I had the earlier one that everyone says isn’t as effective. I asked my primary care doc if I should get the new one, and he said I shouldn’t bother.

I had shingles about ten years ago and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. I didn’t even have a bad case but it was still awful. I’ll get the vaccination this year, as Ontario has it on the vaccine schedule for fifty year olds. But given these accounts, I’ll plan the timing carefully!

Mom got the old shot and was planning on the new jabs when Covid came to town... She got shingles that turned into a long-haul version that I guess sometimes happens? Ugh. Pain across her side and back that never goes away.

I got both of mine and didn't lose any days, but it was tough to work through.

Yes, that’s the one I had. You might ask you PCP again, if that discussion was a while ago, I think the scientific support for getting the shingrix has really increased. (As @wtg mentioned)

I am hopefully done with these side effects, but it was definitely a much rougher two days than I expected. The nurse said the second one is worse (this was my first shot) so I might shift around my appointment for shot number two…

BTW for anyone getting the shot, do plan to take Tylenol, that definitely helped me. I went to bed at 9:30pm last night, that helped too.

Also plan to clear your calendar.

I only knew because when I went in to my PCP with the rash (which I suspected was shingles - it was a pretty classic case) he grilled me on the timing. He shared that if you start the meds for it within 72 hours it greatly decreases the chances of it becoming a chronic case. I was puzzled (I was picturing a chronic rash - I really knew nothing about shingles). He explained that some people get nerve pain when they have shingles and that the pain can just stick around if it becomes chronic. True to his word I spent about a week with the trunk of my body (left side only) feeling like it was on fire. Nothing could touch my skin without extreme pain. Wearing a shirt was excruciating. Thankfully it went away pretty quickly, but it scared me enough that when I think carefully about that pain (ten years later) I can (psychosomatically) feel my skin crawl in those same spots.

I’ve never had a reaction to vaccines, or medications for that matter. I attribute it to my misspent youth. It’s seen it all.

I obviously am a glutton for punishment, because I just got a covid vax and a flu shot this morning. My right arm is still a little sore from the Shingrix, so I got them both in the left.

I was chatting with the nurse while there and she said that if I had a hard time with my first Shingrix shot, the next one will be horrible.

Oh, btw this was at a CVS minute clinic and she said in the last week the number of college students coming in and testing positive for flu and covid has exploded. Also mono.

I wish I could have a Dr. who makes house calls.

They don't much these days but it must have been routine.

I can show you a few different Dr.'s bags in traditional styles being made today, brass hardware along the two top sides, held together with a latch, some with underneath zipper compartments (I don't know what fr, probably not shoes) of fine craftsmanship. I guess people are buying the as a fashion accessory.

Shouldn't the Dr. come to the sick person and not the other way around?

I'd rather have that more than so much a "cleaning lady."

I never get Covid shots for reasons I have tried and failed to clarify on these boards for a long time.

Anyway, "consent". It has little if any meaning these days.
