    Kitchen looks great, congrats!!

I'm not good at choosing rugs, but this one seems like a good candidate, esp since it is similar in tonal quality to the floor, so you can assume it won't be a huge mismatch.

Re Ruggable... I thoght maybe Cindy was recommending them some time ago (years ago?) on old-WTF, But I'm not sure my memory is right.

Will you add a rug pad?

Yes, a thick one. It will cover all the work areas.

Wow, your kitchen looks great! Didn't know refacing could look that good. What was the finish before?

It's really nice to change up some of the elements to make it look fresh and new without going through the hassle of a total remodel.

Friends just replaced the floor and counters in their kitchen. They kept the light maple cabinets that they installed in the early 90s and didn't refinish them. They are a neutral color and style that is hard to place time-wise because they aren't faddish. Their old floor was white sheet vinyl and the counter was an off-white laminate with a maple edge, which did look a bit 90s. They put in LVP flooring and a stone-look laminate and the kitchen looks fabulous.

As for the rug, I really like it and I think it would look very good in that space.

All the cabinets were white - I painted them in 2005. They were raised panel, not full overlay and not particularly great to begin with, but the boxes were very solid. It looked like this:

          image.png

We're very pleased with the result. Replaced the old granite tile counter I put in in 2005 too, with a quartz one. It';s not as thick as the old counter so I have some grouting and trim carpentry to do yet.

MrsTuner got a ruggable for 'her' bathroom... Thin, looks great and has been very stable on the floor. Vacuums well, though they recommend light suction to avoid pulling off from the base. Hasn't washed it yet...

I originally thought you just refaced and painted the old doors. It looks like they refaced the frame and you got new full overlay doors. That's pretty cool. Like you said, what could possibly be wrong with the cabinet boxes? What a cost-effective way to update.

I don't like buying things like rugs over the internet because it's difficult to be sure what the colors really look like. I almost made that mistake a number of years ago when purchasing a carpet for our dining room. I had picked out something that I thought would be good. Fortunately, the dealer also had a retail store in Virginia that was on our route from a trip. We stopped and looked at the actual carpet there and it would not have worked. The colors differed noticeably from the on-line image. We ended up buying a carpet in the same design but a slightly different color palette from the store and had it shipped to our house. It matched as I had hoped and has been very satisfactory.

One question about what you are looking at: Is it a fiber that doesn't mind occasional water in the kitchen?

                          @Big_Al said in Ruggable?:

Me too! Not just colors, but material, feel, thickness... this holds for towels, clothing, furniture, shoes.... Big retailers like Amazon usually offer free returns, but other places don't, and of course sometimes you can't tell how something will be until you open it up, maybe put it together.... So I try to buy in store as much as possible, because I figure if I want to be able to purchase in store for things that need to be seen in person, I need to purchase in store in general, or else those stores aren't going to be there any more.

But it's getting harder and harder to buy in-store. The town we live in now doesn't have a Penneys or a Macys, there's no Ashley Furniture store. There is a Lowes and a Menards, but no Home Depot... And I really don't like driving on the big highways you have to go on to get to these stores....

@Big_Al, yeah. It has different colors on a pc and an iPhone, so I’m concerned too.

What they really need is a swatch or something so you can see the colors in person.

I don't see how they could do a swatch for a multicolor rug, but it sure would be nice. I've returned several rugs over the years, but I think I have a good enough eye for colors and shapes now.
