Now they're saying 38 on Tuesday! I hope so!

What's the difference of a few degrees in a no heat cold water flat?

They seem to change the forecast every few hours. We'll see.

The temperature is actually rising slightly and its peak will be from 1:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. after which it will be descending throughout the day. Recurring weather pattern but rare.

10 inches of snow, with some variability across the city. We did some shoveling today but it’s taxing physically, and we have a lot of sidewalk, being a corner property. It’s now sleeting, which makes the snow even heavier. We’ll have a local guy finish up tomorrow.

        Single malt helps.

My father lived to be 80. He made the decision some years before to hire people to take care of the snow. It wasn't like him to do things like that. I was glad to hear it.

The Apple weather app said we had a total of 22” of snow but I feel like that can’t be right, based on depth before we started shoveling yesterday morning, and then the depth before Mr SK did the second round of shoveling yesterday evening. I think it was probably more like 16” total.
Whatever, it was a lot of snow for this area.

Now the temps are supposed to drop to -18C/-0.4F by midday, and then stay low through tomorrow. Then we have several days where the overnight low will be between -1F to -5F.

I will be glad when the cold snap ends, this extreme cold makes me nervous.

Maybe 8" downtown. It continued to snow most of the day and stopped around 7pm last night. Roads look clear, sidewalks still a mess in our neighborhood.

Just before we moved here a friend gave me this goofy hat, saying it seemed like something I’d need. He thought it was hysterically funny.

It’s been in a drawer for four years - no way I was going to wear such a thing. But today I busted it out and - dayum! It really works! Way better than a stocking cap!

I’ve found today and yesterday that my layers and hats etc work fine. It my fingers and toes that give out first. I had to stop and warm my fingers at least once over the course of an hour+ outside.

@Steve-Miller Mr SK has a hat just like that, he got it when I was in grad school and we lived "up north." For truly cold weather, it can't be beat.

@jon-nyc do you have something like these?

They are another Mr SK must-have item from our "up north" days.

No but I have boots. They did fine yesterday but today I found myself standing in snow for extended periods of time.

I think I need thermal mittens. I don’t really need gloves to shovel.

Or hand warmers. There are disposable and rechargeable ones.

I was outside again today for about an hour (working on getting things down to the pavement so that it won't freeze, because it will be too cold for salt to work, and that's all we have).

Anyway, it was pretty cold but the sun was out. I was wearing these orthopedic shoes, they're backless but they have very thick soles. Yesterday, I was wearing boots, but these thick soles were much better. Funny what makes a difference.

We went out briefly to run an errand. We thought because it was so sunny it wasn't that cold.

We were wrong. Wind chill, doncha know.
