Will you be able to get a COVID vaccine?
-
I don't know that there's any harm - except the lingering perception among some of the population (without actual evidence) that too many vaccines are somehow problematic.
I believe for the docs, it probably goes something like "if there isn't a clear benefit, why recommend?" There is always risks involved with any medical intervention - pages of fine print confirm that for most drugs we take!

I’m old enough to qualify and I’ll get one. The probability of it being good far outweighs the probability of being bad.
Flu shot too, and any other vax they have available.

The Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday approved the latest round of Covid vaccines in the U.S., but only for those at higher risk of getting severely sick from the virus.
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said the shots are available for all patients who choose them after consulting with their doctors.
But it’s unclear how easily patients without high risk factors will be able to get a Covid vaccine, and whether insurance plans will still cover the shots for healthy Americans.https://www.cnbc.com/2025/08/27/fda-covid-vaccine-authorization--rfk.html

I'm in the old enough category and thankful for that.
I read this rather wishy-washy paragraph at NPR:
People who are not officially eligible for the vaccines may still be able to get the shots for themselves or their children by getting a doctor's prescription and paying out of pocket. But that may create insurmountable barriers for many people. The COVID shots can cost $200 or more without insurance, getting a doctor's appointment can be difficult for vaccination can be difficult..
but then:
Nineteen states require pharmacists to follow the CDC's guidelines, according to the American Pharmacists Association. The rules vary in the remaining states.

I'm not quite geezerly enough, and I don't meet any of the other requirements.
I'm pissed.

I don't meet any of the other requirements.
But do check with your doc just in case. I suspect both myself and Mr SK will be able to get a prescription for the shot.
I'll let you know!

@Mary-Anna I can let you know when pharmacies here have them in stock. Shoppers Drug Mart is the general go to for both flu and COVID vaccinations - in Quebec it is called Pharmaprix.
