The trick to searing a steak with a propane torch is to just barely touch the tip of the flame to the surface of the steak. If you touch the steak with the blue part of the flame the steak ends up tasting like propane.
Crème brûlée is the same way.

It takes a day for every hour of time difference for the body’s internal clock to adjust to time zone changes. So it takes 13 days to get fully readjusted when you travel to some pace where there’s a 13-hour time difference

Sequitur ... I have caramelized crème brûlée with a heat gun before, no flame and no propane taste to worry about. Seems the same can be done for searing steak, if anyone with a heat gun wants to try it.

When ice cream consumption goes up, more people drown. Therefore we must reduce ice cream consumption.

I feel compelled to note that I saw this factoid in an early MAD magazine satirizing newspaper layouts, where short sentences were used to fill out blank space in newspaper columns.
