Whatever. My point isn’t about the timing it’s about why it’s necessary to physically protect pedestrian streets in Europe and it isn’t because the jehovas witnesses or the Hasidic Jews will indiscriminately kill scores of civilians while screaming an ecstatic religious battle cry.

I get that we’re supposed to pretend it isn’t an especial issue with one particular group but the data don’t support that and they tried to kill me and were almost successful so I refuse to go along.

There are all kinds of bollards and other barriers that were installed as part of the project to make Oxford Street car-free.

        alt text

Lord Khan’s pedestrianisation of Oxford Street “discriminates” against wheelchair users and the visually impaired, disability campaigners have said.

The scheme was described as “shockingly bad” and discriminatory because it restricts access to the street.

Campaigners criticised inconveniently placed benches and bollards, and ramps that were “painful” to mount. They added that shops were also more difficult to access now that there was no direct public transport.

        https://www.aol.com/articles/khan-oxford-street-makeover-discriminates-172332000.html

This isn't a "Christmas market" thing. The plan to close off Oxford Street has been in the works for a long time. They did rush to get it in before Christmas to maximize foot traffic to businesses during the holiday shopping season.

@jon-nyc I'm not sure who "they" are or why they tried to kill you (not something you read on a forum every day), but it seems to me, in terms of world religions, comparative religion, it's just one organized religion among many. What if we attributed the violence Christians have done in history (nothing short of barbarism and savagery) with Christianity as a religion? Well, speaking for myself, I am a Christian, and I wouldn't let anyone put these deeds on me for one complete second.

I just did a bit of research and the 20 worst vehicle ramming attacks in Europe have killed 173 people.

Followers of Islam were responsible for 80% of them.

They are 5-6% of the European population.

Daniel - I was registered for and was supposed to be at the Risk Waters conference at Windows of the World on September 11th and 12th, 2001. I was going to be late which is why you and I had the chance to meet here.

I get your Islamophobia, @jon-nyc . Far be it from me to stand in your way. Carry on. But I think this sort of stuff goes over much better next door than here.

                    Phobias are for spiders.

The term ‘Islamophobia’ is, at best, a category error. Islam is a set of ideas. A memetic complex. One can object, even strenuously, to ideas without being a bigot.

Ever notice that the terms ‘christianophobia’ or ‘judeophobia’ not only don’t exist, but they’re unintelligible

I hate to be the one to put a hole through this defense but 'christophobia' is a definitely a real term and I've heard it used thoughout my adult life. And then there's anti-semitism.

Christophobia doesn’t have a Wikipedia entry and my iPhone spell check flags it as not a word. I am not arguing that it’s never been written or uttered. But is isn’t in our collective consciousness.

Antisemitism is about Jews (a people), not Judaism (as a set of ideas). In fact antisemitism is more typically aimed at secular Jews rather than the religious set.

"Anti-Semitism" is a deliberately formulated propagandistic term. Citation upon request.

The first recorded use was by a Jew in 1860 but the term was popularized two decades later by German agitator Wilhelm Marr who founded the ‘league of antisemites’.

I agree it was for propaganda purposes. At the time Judenhass sounded religious and crude while ‘antisemitism’ sounded modern and scientific. Again, in that moment. But that was a time when scientists regularly classified and characterized differences in races and it was considered science.

For the record, I'm glad you're here.

And why should I not share this now.

You're the only reason I'm here.

                                          I mean still posting.

A long time ago (a long time ago and I don't remember the details), I had a disagreement (ok,now I remember the details but discretion forbids revisit in public) and it was the one and only time I was in fact going to walk away over a disagreement from my first day at TNCR until this day.

You told me "I think the forum is a better place with you here" and that was what changed my mind.

I'd miss the forum (and the hobby) as well as the fact I'd be bereft if I had excommunicated myself with this group who "speak my language."

So I have since held an abiding appreciation for your posts here.

'But as they said in one of the later Rocky movies, "Time...it's undefeated.".-- Mik
