It has cooled off here as well, but we are extremely dry. I've never seen it this dry. The grasses are scorched, the earth is parched. We desperately need rain. Had a few very short-lived showers today but just a drop in the bucket.

    The industrial revolution cheapened everything.

We were in semi-drought mode until a week ago. We got four inches of much-needed rain over three days or so. Some folks in the southern burbs got 7 or 8 inches in a couple of short deluges and there was flooding.

So we lucked out and the plants are much happier.

It is spectacular. Out on the deck now and it’s a little cool.

Rained today in most of the county. Good steady rain is too rare here. We are in a drought. The rain is very welcome. 51F this morning at 8am.

Today’s the last day in the 80s for a while but still nice most of the day.

Every year around this time we hear a cricket chirping in the basement. I heard this year's lucky talisman chirping for the first time last night.

It's official: Summer is almost over.

Finally much needed significant rainfall this evening, tail-end of some US storm I guess.

Why our council workers this morning were out in force mowing and spreading clouds of brown dust, goodness knows.

Highs in the upper 60s today. A sunny and absolutely lovely autumnesque day.

Was out in the yard and found a Romano bean that got a bit overgrown. I popped open the pod and these beauties appeared:

I think I'll call these lapis lazuli beans from now on. They look remarkably like that stone....
