We're a bit cooler than average (overnight it will be in the 50s, maybe even the high 40s in some areas), but it's the angle of the sun in the sky that makes it feel autumnal to me. Areas of the yard that were in sun a month ago are now in shade till well into the day. I feel super energized in weather like this, especially after all the heat and humidity that we had this summer.

Looking forward to apples and pumpkins and squashes and all the other fall goodies.

I tend to be focused on the local weather here, but I know folks are scattered all over the country and the weather is completely different.

@jodi - when do you guys get your first frost?

Here too. Put on a sweatshirt to go out and pull weeds.

Some plants like it, recovering after the hot spell. The Japanese forest grass I thought was dead is growing like a weed! I may shade it next year. Bluegrass woke up - wild that it stays green even when it has snow on it.

Others plants are winding down. Parsley is about done, as are the peppers. Balloon flowers stopped blooming. First frost is not predicted until 10/27 but it can vary.

It has cooled off here as well, but we are extremely dry. I've never seen it this dry. The grasses are scorched, the earth is parched. We desperately need rain. Had a few very short-lived showers today but just a drop in the bucket.

We were in semi-drought mode until a week ago. We got four inches of much-needed rain over three days or so. Some folks in the southern burbs got 7 or 8 inches in a couple of short deluges and there was flooding.

So we lucked out and the plants are much happier.

It is spectacular. Out on the deck now and it’s a little cool.

Rained today in most of the county. Good steady rain is too rare here. We are in a drought. The rain is very welcome. 51F this morning at 8am.

Today’s the last day in the 80s for a while but still nice most of the day.

Every year around this time we hear a cricket chirping in the basement. I heard this year's lucky talisman chirping for the first time last night.

Finally much needed significant rainfall this evening, tail-end of some US storm I guess.

Why our council workers this morning were out in force mowing and spreading clouds of brown dust, goodness knows.
