    Joyful Parisians take a historic plunge into the Seine after 100 years

    The return to swimming follows a 1.4 billion euro ($1.5 billion) cleanup project tied to last year’s Olympics. Officials now say the Seine meets European water quality standards on most days.

        @wtg

        Environmental authorities confirmed bacteria levels were well below official thresholds.

        Wonderful!

          I will not touch Ohio River waters, so I sure as hell would not get in the Seine.

            Well, sometimes people do go in-Seine.

              It was closed to swimming today. It rained and the sewer system overflowed. Not surprisingly that raised bacteria counts big time.

                  Can't get to Paris? How about Chicago?

                  @Rontuner - are you going to walk over to the river to watch the swim?

                      Lots of fond memories of autumn trips up to the peninsula. Say hello to Door County for me.

                      Have fun!

                        Are you going to do any apple picking? Here's some info about u-pick orchards:

                        https://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/story/news/local/door-co/life/2025/09/11/heres-a-look-at-the-2025-pick-your-own-apples-season-in-door-county/86065990007/

                        We used to buy apples and warm apple fritters at Richmond Orchards, but they closed quite a while back.

                          Maybe in a full survival suit and Scuba gear.

                          I skied the Mississippi River when I was a kid. I was skiing when my brother was pulling me in the big waves behind the barges and broke the boat in halves. Fun times when pollution was not a common word.

                              Chicago? I'll take a tour. Paris, Chicago, London, New York.

                              On second thought, this grand swimming in polluted water tour would conflict with my busy schedule.

                              Maybe next year!
