Cancelling Amazon

I feel a lot better, just cancelled my Amazon account. Mind you, I only used it as a last resort and not very often. But I don't want to patronize that douchebag Bezos at all. Period.
An advertisement set to run in The Washington Post yesterday calling for Musk to be fired from his role in government was abruptly canceled, according to Common Cause, one of the groups that had ordered the ad. When asked why the Post had pulled the ad, the Post said it was not at liberty to give a reason.
Just putting this out there: We don't need Amazon. We don't need Facebook. We don't need X. Just say NO!

No Facebook, never had it. Same for X. Now I won't click on X or FB links at all.
I cancelled my Prime membership a while back and haven't ordered from Amazon for months at a time. Except for the Canadian Gaviscon...see my reflux thread....
But yes, keeping dollars away from them is a good idea.

Ugh, you all are much better than me.... I suppose we could function without amazon, but it will be a huge adjustment.
I'll talk to Mr SK. The first thing would be canceling Prime I guess.... I will have to really steel myself to actually ween off of Amazon....

Our Amazon Prime membership is in Mr Pique's name. He refuses to give it up, because he watches a lot of tv and movies on their streaming services. Somebody please tell me an alternative source of streaming that will placate him so he'll cancel our account.
I have stopped buying anything on Amazon.

I’m a guest user of my daughter’s WAPO subscription. I hardly look at it any more though. I should ask her why she keeps it…but she works for an international aid org, so may need input on Washington agendas.
Edit: I just saw that her subscription expires next month. Wouldn’t be surprised if she doesn’t renew.

I don't know what shows and movies he watches on Amazon. If it's the Amazon-produced stuff, he's stuck with Amazon. But if not, there are tons of streaming services, many free, that he could check out. Should be noted that Freevee is an Amazon channel, so if you're looking to keep bucks away from Bezos, then skip that one.

This list of free streaming from Cord Cutters News includes Hoopla and Kanopy, which you access via your library, if they subscribe to the services. You're limited to a certain number of checkouts in a month, but they are ad-free. I checked the library I think is yours and it looks like you have access to both Hoopla and Kanopy.
Of course there's PBS Passport, which you get full access to if you donate $60 a year to a PBS station.
If those don't work you can consider paid services. I tend to subscribe around Black Friday/Christmas when they have deals. I use the service until it goes back to full price. I got Hulu for 99 cents a month for a year and Max for $2.99 a month for six months. I subscribe to Netflix for a month if there's something I want to watch.
Walmart has a membership program similar to Prime; they call it Walmart+ They had a half price deal for $49 for a year, so I joined last year. That deal was around June/July. One of the membership perks is free access to Paramount+. And a reduced price if you want to add Showtime to that. I probably won't renew next year because I just don't use the delivery service very often, but something to consider.
Peacock has a deal going right now for $29 a year.You could watch Conclave! ETA: deal expired….BTW, if you're not aware of it, each of these paid services is associated with a major network. If you watch shows on the network, the episodes are mostly available to stream starting the day after they are broadcast.
