Love the house, hate the furniture, nice garden.

Like the furniture just fine, but not in that house.

Nice house but the living areas are too dark for my taste. Kitchen and such are just right.

Furniture doesn’t work with that much heavy ornamentation.

Some of those San Francisco Victorians can be a bit overwhelming with their decor. I had a concert poster made (back in the 70s when I lived there) in a mansion in Pacific Heights that reeked of old-money opulence. I should find it and post it here!

If I wanted a house with that kind of awesome late 19th century decorative interior, I would not burden it with that completely inappropriate, .... jarringly inappropriate, furniture. Some mixed styles work. In my view, that one does not.

The house would be a lot more wonderful without the busy wallpaper. I'm a big fan of Noguchi and Eames furniture. My guess is the sellers bought a midcentury modern to match their furniture and that's why the house is for sale.

@Mik Yes. In that setting the furniture looks ostentatious.

@pique Interesting hypothesis, sounds quite credible.

@Piano-Dad Indeed. If there were one or two pieces of mcm, carefully placed, it might make a statement. (The coffee table, for instance, would look stunning if it weren't being singled out by the other pieces of modern furniture in the room.) But the whole house is reeking Victorian, and the whole lot of furniture is screaming mcm. Too incongruous for my tastes.

                        I agree.

The house is amazing, and it would be a neat place to live, but I don’t think I could deal with all that wallpaper in my own home. And It would be a nightmare to decorate, not just the furniture but art on the walls, that sort of thing.

Also, did anyone else think that those palm trees need to go? They really detract from the outside of the house.

Palm trees can get very ugly as they get taller, they don’t work in just any setting. At least in my opinion.

                          I would feel claustrophobic.
