Work on the stair railing begins!!

It should be good. I'll be waiting to see a photo of the finished installation, including how it accommodates the existing carpet.

Me too!!
The carpet is a bit of a gamble. I can't remember if I posted about this already, but basically, the carpenter originally said he would pull back the carpet and then we could have a carpet layer come in and replace it (i.e. use the same carpet).
Well I spoke with a few carpet stores and they said "nope, not gonna work, we won't do that." Basically because stairwells use too many staples, they said that the carpet wouldn't really be in good shape to go back, no matter how carefully you pulled back the carpet or removed the staples.
So he's going to try to put holes in the carpet and put the balusters in that way. I figure it's worth a try, since if it works, great, but if it doesn't work, I'd have to replace the carpet completely, which is what we would have to do if he didn't try it.
We'll know in a few days here!

He's almost done!!! Yay!!!! He's coming back tomorrow (rather than wait until Monday) - double yay!!!
Check it out:
Did I post about the carpet on the stairs? It looks like it's going to work out, I'm very relieved!

That's looking very good. How did he fit the posts in the carpet so neatly?

That looks great! Is there handrail on the wall above where the stair railing begins? (Handrail on both sides?)

There will be. He started from the bottom, so heās not to that point yet. I suspect heās saved the easiest part for last.

Looks great. That post at the bottom will interfere with sliding down.

All done!!
Yay!!! Also he said heād be finished by the 10th and he was?
It looks really good Iām so glad we didnāt do a solid wall!!!
-
Very nicely done! Glad he was able to work with the existing carpet. It looks almost new and it would have been a shame to have to replace it.
Congratulations. When is your move date?
-
One more picture. It fits in perfectly!!
@wtg I agree, it would have been such a waste to have to get rid of the carpet!
Weāre moving In three days!!! I canāt wait!!!

Excellent. I'm glad you installed it and that it turned out so well.

Thanks everyone! Yep, it couldnāt have worked out better! And Iām so glad we didnāt do an actual wall there instead, esp. given how nice the room is down there.
And I am glad we got it installed now, before we moved. Itās definitely safer, and itās one of those things that if you didnāt do right away, it would just stay that way forever. Until someone fell off the stairs
