Hurricane headed my way

Yikes.... "The forecast for Helene to transition from a potential tropical cyclone to a Category 3 hurricane appears to be the fastest progression ever predicted for a depression by the National Hurricane Center."

Jodi, I'm in Pinellas so none of us particularly high elevation. They haven't opened evacuation yet. We were invited to RM's house about 30 miles north. He decided to stay. She more than generously said I can come anyway. I had already decided I wasn't going if asked. Boy, broken ribs must be really painful because he's in a fowl mood and that's with pain killers. I haven't broken any bones. Knock wood. We haven't spoken but a few words to each other since Sunday. I just got to a point where I thought what's the use other than to let him try to provoke me into yet another dumb argument.
His sister called me. She's sending a Wal-Mart order. There's food here. Of course they'll be less if the power goes out.
I just did my last load of laundry before the storm and hung it out to dry on the porch. They've moved the rain forecast from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. so it should get dry.
Some people knock wood always end up in a bad way after a storm like this one.
It makes you have to confront how little power you have when nature is your opponent.
Thanks, Jodi.

Thanks, wtg.

Be careful. But yeah, we have few options against nature.

Thanks, Mik. It looks like it will strengthen to category 4 and hit near Tallahassee. We might have some flooding (although I doubt it- our municipal drainage is very good) and wind gusts into the 45- 49 mph range but I'm optimistic.
-
I'm walking to the corner store in the rain but right now the weather does not match the severity my weather app is showing. There's almost no wind. That could change but I think the hurricane moved to the west.
-
Is there higher ground to the east of Pinellas?
Have been to Apalachicola. The elevation must be about 2". -
@Daniel As long as that lack of wind doesn’t mean you’re in the eye of the storm! Good luck.
-
This must be quite a storm!
Forecast is for 50 MPH winds and 10’ waves on Lake Erie!
-
We might get some impacts here as well, it's kind of too soon to tell though.
My old town in the southeast is going to get walloped though. I'm more than a little worried about that!

40-45 mph gusts here tomorrow, courtesy of Helene

@wtg all th way up there?? Yikes!!
-
Chas, not really. You have to go north to get to rolling hills. I haven't looked at a map (that would be interesting) but Gainesville is at a higher elevation, iiirc.
Much depends on whether you're next to the Gulf or another body of water. I'm not so I don't have to worry about storm surge.
It's raining moderate to almost heavy and the wind is now about 30 mph. I think this will be the worst of it here.

@AdagioM, Thanks!

One county where Helene going
is telling people that will not evacuate to write their names and birthdates on their leg or arm with a Magic Marker.
That says a lot. -
Saw that guy. Blunt but smart.
-
@Daniel how are you doing?
We have a high wind warning through 11pm tonight and the forecast says to expect widespread power outages. There is also a lot of rain predicted, but I believe wind is the bigger concern. We’ll see how it goes.

We have blessed, welcome rain all day here. Welcome, Helene.
