Why would anyone believe anything he promises?? Scant evidence from his past other than working transactionally for personal gain or punishing others.

Restore "rule of law" from the top down... there's a long and dangerous road ahead.

He's a man with a huge ego that was punctured last night. This is the time he is most dangerous because he cannot live with not being the center of attention and being praised for how wonderful he is. Heck, he already told Fox News that the election results aren't really about him.

The Stephen Millers and Russell Voughts are still the ones pulling the strings. Those two guys were anticipating this could happen and have been planning for it.

      https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/trump-white-house-maps-path-110343688.html

I doubt he'll work with Democrats. He's going to continue his second term as planned, as a branding exercise for his name and a way to amass a fortune for himself and his family.

One of the things that worries me is that he has no qualms about being unpredictable and outrageous just to keep his name in the spotlight and to distract people from other things he's doing. I would keep an eye on Iran in the next few weeks. I worry that he and his merry men may do some really stupid things.

The worst thing the Dems could do now is to launch a vengeance tour. Yes, they need to figure out how to force the Hegseths out. And yes, they need to call administration officials on the carpet for truly egregious behavior. But going after the GOP wholesale is a recipe for disaster in 2028. While revenge might seem sweet, I don't think that's what a lot of the public wants.

Dems need to put their heads down and govern. And to learn to find common ground with any Republicans who can grow balls and defy Trump. He's lost a tremendous amount of power and they might not be as scared of him.

Just think - wouldn't it be lovely if we had a Congress that could find a way to a two-thirds majority to override Mr Veto? And that our legislators actually worked on our behalf? I know, I'm a dreamer....

Not vengeance. Justice. And if the center, milquetoast Dems think we should just forget the depraved behavior Trump and the republicans exhibited these past two years, they have another think coming. (I don't believe they think that, except for maybe a few like Fetterman.) People are angry and they want Justice. Alex Pretti, Renee Good, a child sitting before a judge with no representation, an illegal war, countless illegal arrests, kissing up to dictators the world over, destroying our good faith the the rest of the western world, and on and on and on.

We'd better get justice. We need no further grounds for impeachment of Trump, Hegseth, Blanche than what already exists.

      The industrial revolution cheapened everything.

        I agree with both @wtg and @bernard

What the Dems do next is of the utmost importance. I'm not confident they'll get it right...

Excellent point. And the only reason he's accepting the results is because he wasn't on the ballot.

        Also this!

Yes, we need justice and accountability, but justice is backward-looking. First, I think the top priority needs to be forward-looking, damage control and preventing more of what has already happened from continuing to happen.

And making sure the checks and balances that are supposed to be in place are actually functioning as intended as we go forward.

And also get ahead on the messaging to red voters about what is to come with the Republican "big beautiful bill"... You know the Rethugs will only blame the new Dem majority for anything now.

As much as I dislike Rahm Emanuel (from his time in Chicago), what he said right before the election makes a lot of sense.

"I mean, look, I'm very straightforward that, in Tuesday, the Republicans will lose. What the Democrats do in 2027 will determine whether we have won. And what I mean by that is, I'm absolutely for all the hearings about follow the money, Venezuelan money, oil deals with Russia, everything, what the Witkoff and Trump children have. Follow the money.

What you should do immediately within the first three months is pass an ethics package, five quick things for all three branches of government, no stock trading, no prediction market participation, mandatory blind trust, mandatory retirement age or term limits, and what I call fifth and finally the Kushner rule, no foreign money while you're in service or for two years afterwards.

And the Democrats, if you get that type of change done, you will deliver a victory to yourselves and to the American people. Pass a minimum wage. Hasn't been passed since 2007, when we took control. Third, restrict the tariffs. Both of the last two deal with affordability. The first one deals with the ethics and corruption around this administration.

Vote and give the public, in fast order, both on speed and substance, a down payment on change. You will not only tell the coalition that voted you into the majority. You heard them and you acted, and then, B, setting up 2028, which is, we are the party of change, that is the party of corrupt failed status quo."

If it is vetoed, Dems have an election point, if it is passed, they get a win for Americans.

I do not like Rahm Emanuel either, he's old school and we need fresh politicians. But this is, I think, good advice. There is no reason this cannot happen while accountability gets underway in January. The other thing I think the Democrats need to do is look at the white, non-college educated and try to figure out what they need and want. They are one group the Democrats still lose to Republicans. Also, white women seem reluctant to get on board with Democrats. Although both groups showed movement away from red towards blue last night, they are a weak point for Democrats.

                    Rahm is 100% correct.

Also Iโ€™m hearing noises that some Dems are talking about abandoning the bipartisan permitting bill thatโ€™s been percolating. That would be utter stupidity. You donโ€™t win an election on affordability and then abandon an affordability bill.

Wanting justice vengeance is the same crap MAGA was crying for in 24. It accomplished nothing. That route leads to sure defeat in 28 unless they seriously deliver results for people.

Get busy working for your constituents and quit looking in the rear view mirror. Trump had four years to plan. Iโ€™m pretty sure everything he did that can be verified was legal even if not highly ethical.

MAGA crap accomplished nothing because their bogus cases were based on fictions. Figments of their conspiracy rotted minds and their refusal to accept facts as facts.

But there will be accountability for the illegality, corruption, and crimes of the Trump administration, of this I am positive.
