    No. it's just I haven't lived somewhere cold since I was 14.

I was born in Tampa and my parents and I moved to my father's home town when I was 2. I lived in New York for about a year after college as well.

I hated the cold. I've always hated the cold.

This is where my father passed in the house he built in '73, the same one my brother and I inherited, and the estate sold.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutchess_County,_New_York#:~:text=Dutchess County is a county,Valley region of the state.

Duchess County (Hyde Park) is where FDR had a mansion. Many old Dutch families and Gilded Age industrialists had mansions on the Eastern side of the Hudson.

The area was settled by the Dutch before the English. A lot of its place names and folklore are Dutch.

Its indigenous inhabitants were the Iroquois.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iroquois

It's definitely cold there! There are four distinct seasons.

It gets much colder and there's a lot more snow if you travel north to Albany, Buffalo, etc.

I remember the last winter coat I had there. It was jacket length, down but too much, making it look like the robot in Lost in Space, with goofy late '70's style oversized wool collars.

My mother bought it for school clothes and I wore it for about four years.

Then when I left to live with my grandparents the summer before 10th grade, I left it there and used it whenever I was there during the winter.

It was a disaster. I don't know what happened to it. I assume it met a fate along the lines of getting thrown in a dumpster.

      39 F, 20 mph, wind chill 29 F.

It feels like my fingers and toes are going to shatter like ice and fall off.

These are deer tracks in the front yard. They’re going from tree to tree finding bark to eat. I dare say they are starving. It is actually nice.

I used to love to go for a walk in Door County after a fresh snow. The animal tracks crisscrossing the road were like a map of where anything had been, and in most cases, what they were. There was one time when we saw a long snake-like line through the snow. We finally figured out that it was Morgan, our neighbor's golden retriever. Bill had left Morgan's leash on him in case he needed to restrain him if a car drove by. The leash dragged behind the dog, creating the snow snake. 😁

normal February day here in Reno would be a high in the 40s and low in the 20s.

I changed into shorts before my walk to lunch today… I think it hit 71° in a very bright sunny clear day.

@steve-miller very nice picture! We had deer in upstate NY. Some people think fall is the most beautiful season. I think it's winter. I guess summer would be a strong contender too. I always thought spring was the most dramatic change personally. I don't know about where you are but November was our nothing to see here time. The leaves were gone and the snow hadn't arrived. I miss the four seasons. I wouldn't want to live in that part of the world again but it has a lot to recommend it.

This has been a long cold spell for us & the pianos reflect that! Tuned at a high school today. It was 60%+ humidity when I last tuned and 30% today. As you might guess, they were about 35 cents flat of A=440 (100 cents = a half step, or sounding the next note)

Sounding the next note would be terrible! Good grief.

We're floating in the high 50's/ low '60's down to high '40's/ low 50's.

It's too cold but it will be too hot soon enough. What can you do.

I've had a few more calls for sticking/sluggish parts as the wood of the action/keys shrink and cause binding. Ah, the seasonal piano dance for Chicago!

Reminds me of a joke. A foreigner approached a little girl in London and says “is it always thei grey and rainy here?”

She replies, “I don’t know, I’m only eight.”

Rained all day again, our lawn is mud, so have started hosepiping the dogs' legs before letting them back in.

On a positive note, after the driest summer since 1893 they just lifted the last hosepipe ban in the south of England.

I don't like rainy days as much as dry ones but for the trivial reason I don't have to clean up mud and have time to see to other stuff.

We have water. There are mains that need to be fixed every few months. The manager sends a crew immediately and we don't go without water for more than an hour or two.

We didn't get a lot of rain last summer. The weeds and grass didn't grow in the rock beds that needed to be replaced from the beginning. Again, I could see to other stuff.

There were no hurricanes on our side of the Gulf including Louisiana.

It was a lucky break after we the had two catastrophic hurricanes the previous season.

One caused major damage to my place. It took a year to get everything renovated and cleaned up.

I would be remiss not to mention the other hurricane caused catastrophic damage up through North Carolina after hitting us south of here.

I love rainy days all things being equal.
