Hit and Run last night--fine but annoyed

Chevy truck rammed my brand new Prius from behind while tailgating late last night and sped off. Luckily choochiefingers got his plate # and we are not hurt. Sigh. Did I mention the Prius is brand new?

Yeah--I was able to find and run his VIN. White truck, white paint on my white car. They whited out his date of birth on the police report, so maybe he's a minor.

Luckily we weren't stopped so the fact that we were both travelling in the same direction helped. But I think I'm going to need a new hatchback, replacement censors and camera and a new fender, new taillights, among other things. I drove it home and it drove ok for those few miles.
Guy had been following us and tailgating and then backing off repeatedly for about 5 minutes before he hit us. Scary stuff.

I have all kinds of theories, but will probably never know the truth.
- I was going the speed limit and that ticked him off, or
- I was driving a Prius and that ticked him off, or
- He was impaired by some substance, or
- He was distracted by his phone, or
- He had a junior license and was in a rush to get home before midnight, or ...?

Oh, no. I’m glad you are OK, but the damage to your new car…I hope you get some compensation.
My very smart wife took out extra insurance for uninsured drivers etc. This helped when I was hit by a car while riding my bike a few years ago.

Well, if the police found him, there will be a public record of the court proceedings. I presume hit and run will wind up in court.

@Piano-Dad I'm not convinced there will be criminal charges. I only know they caught the guy because it was on the police report I requested.

There should be, especially if you contact the police to press them.
