Yes, we got very lucky!! Thank you for asking!!

A tornado touched down about 1.5 miles from us, a little too close for comfort! But we were fine, hanging out in our basement! And we didn’t have any wind damage at our house or in our neighborhood.

There were a few flattened houses and buildings, and a lot of trees down, but all in all the damage was more limited than in some other places.

My brother in law and his son both have houses a few miles apart that were fine - apparently the tornado went between them!

Tornadoes are scary things. Glad you're fine.

St Louis had some pretty bad damage and deaths, too. So horrible. Mr. AM’s mom is in memory care. Her building was fine but the new director’s apartment building was damaged, so the director is living at the facility for now.

@AdagioM Glad your MIL and her building were ok!

A friend of mine has a son living in an apt. just outside of St. Louis, in Clayton. The son wisely went to the building's basement. When he came back up, there was incredible damage to his apartment, with part of the roof missing and a tree on half the building. The whole building is most likely unlivable. But thank goodness for the basement. None of the residents were hurt.

From the photos he shared, it looks to be one of those large, possibly pre WWII, brick apartment buildings, I suspect a smaller building would have been completely flattened.

MIL is in Clayton; that’s where Mr. AM grew up. Apparently the neighborhood behind her building (the Moorlands) had a lot of damage. So close. Glad your friend is okay. But it will take a while to make things right again.

@AdagioM Oh wow, what a crazy coincidence! I have no idea where exactly my friend's son lives, but it must be close to your MIL!

@ShiroKuro Yes, sounds like it started in Clayton, then moved northeast from there. DH’s cousins were slated to fly there from Newark to visit on Friday, but they were delayed for hours (weather, and maybe lack of air traffic controllers?) and gave up. Good thing!
