News sources?

Where to get news? Sources that tiptoe around Trump are no good.
I don't like shows like Joe Rogan or Hasan Piker that some rely on for news. They are time eaters and rely on personalities.
I have started Ground News.
Suggestions?
Think I tried this before, but got no response. -
Al Jazeera is a mouthpiece for Hamas. You would do as well with reading Russia Today. Why not Ha'aretz? I have found them to be very fair and balanced, terrific original reporting. They look at all sides of the conflict in Gaza but are overall fairly leftward leaning.
I like ProPublica, The Guardian, BBC, AP, Reuters, the Atlantic, The New Yorker. I still read the NYT, but I find their coverage to be pretty weak, over all.

Who is to say who is telling lies and distortions? A lot of that comes from the reader’s starting position. I like to hear conflicting viewpoints. If you don’t understand where your opponents are coming from you’re unlikely to deal with them effectively. I think Im pretty good at discerning truth from rhetoric.

Not if you watch a steady diet of Fox you don’t. It’s propaganda and very effective.

Pique prefers to get her lies and distortions from other sources consistent with her beliefs. Mik, I agree. It is prudent to check in with sources that challenge one’s ideas.

The scary part is that in the past if there was a video of Biden or Trump or Netanyahu speaking on video, we could trust that it accurately reflected what was said. It could be distorted by taking the comment out of context, but eventually someone could identify the context. We're now at the point where deep fakes can create fictional video clips. Right now, most of those I've seen have been for comic effect, but next election cycle, I suspect that will change. Legislation probably needs to be enacted to address that - but even with that, the internet remains the wild west and bad actors around the world can likely escape prosecution. For zealots, this means no longer having to believe their eyes and ears if even a legitimate video shows up saying something that contradicts their beliefs. Faith over critical thinking.

A study of the facts, and history as written by professional historians makes it pretty clear where the lies and distortions come from. Call me old fashioned, but I don't believe each of us is entitled to our own facts.

Pretty irrelevant when trying to make sense out of others' positions. Just calling them liars and quoting historians isn't going to get you anywhere. People sadly do not operate on facts but on presentations mixed with emotions.

I usually check in with the local public radio news site in addition to BBC

Have a look at late night TV commentary shows. Seth Myers. John Oliver. Colbert. You don’t have to stay up late, they’re all on YouTube the next day.
Might be the most honest news commentary available.
