@kluurs How many did you use?

We only have two. One in the living room and one in the primary bedroom. Which makes me feel all Downton Abbey-esque!

Our heavily-modified Victorian has 4, if you count the cooking hearth in the basement. Only one of these works (we did use it for a time) but the flue would need cleaning and maybe re-lining at this point to avoid fire hazards.

We don’t have any fireplaces. I don’t like using them, and if you have one that you don’t use, it just takes up valuable wall space.

Not an issue in a house that’s 9000 sq ft of course… 😆

Well, 9 fireplaces would be excessive, don’t you think?

            Ahhhahahahaahha!

Well, my place in New Mexico has ... hmmm, let's count ... one in main living/dining space. One in family room. One in a den. One in casita (gas). One outside on the portal. New Mexican builders seem to love their adobe-style fireplaces in nooks and crannies.

We have used three, but really only the one outside and the one in the family room ever get any real use.

None - ever. Carol can't handle smoke.

We have four. Only one is actually wood burning. The gas one in the living room is turned off, because that is where the piano is. The gas one in the den is on most of the time because that is the only heat source at that end of the house. The electric one in my office is only one when I'm in there--it's the room that is furthest from the thermostat and has huge windows, so it gets pretty cold without the fireplace going. The wood burning fireplace is in the formal dining room, which does double dute as Mr. Pique's office and a second den. We had a lot of fires in there during our recent deep freeze, and I developed a bad rash on my neck which the doctor diagnosed as having been cause by sitting near a wood fire! Luckily the ointment she prescribed got rid of it.

And luckily it is a big tube of ointment, because I'm not giving up our wood fires. Love few things more than a good fire I built myself.

One of the houses we lived in when I was a child did not have central heating. The fireplace in the kitchen was big enough to put a dining room table inside it. All the bedrooms had fireplaces, and in the winter my Dad built a big fire in the one in my room every night just before bedtime. A favorite memory of mine--him sitting at the foot of my bed, silhouetted by the fire.

fear is the thief of dreams

My fireplace in Colorado has gas logs. A flip of a switch warms the living room.
The switch has spoiled me. Doubt I will ever put another log in a fireplace.

We have been one of those too. I didn’t think I’d like it but I do.
