Short sleepers cruise by on four to six hours a night and don’t seem to suffer ill effects. Turns out they’re genetically built to require less sleep than the rest of us.

I've worn a sleep tracking watch since September 2016. Over that time, I slept over 8 hours exactly zero times. I did hit 7:59 on one occasion. I've been retired all that time, so didn't set a regular alarm.

I just looked at my sleep history on my iPhone. I've been using an Apple Watch since May of 2023, so 19 months (before that was a Fitbit). My average sleep duration for those 19 months is 5hr38m
