Christmas tree?

Will you be decorating a tree this year?
Last year we were in Japan for the winter holidays, so we didn’t put up a tree. This year, we’ve moved of course and the house is different, and we’re not traveling, so we decided to put up a tree in the living room — and I got a “pencil tree” for the piano room. I always want to be able to enjoy the tree throughout the month of December, so most years, I decorate the tree either during Thanksgiving weekend or on the first weekend in December. But this year, my mother is coming for Thanksgiving and we’re inviting some people to join us, so I wanted to have the tree, I mean trees, up on Thanksgiving.
So Mr SK put the trees up last weekend, and then I’ve spent an hour or so in the evening over the last several days getting them zhuzhed up, which felt like it took three days, and then decorated.
I think they’re finally done. I’ll try to share some photos later.

Yes, I'll be decorating a little bit. I have two little artificial trees and way more ornaments than can fit on them. Also my vintage Christmas tchotchkes. Tacky but with lots of memories.
I'll probably decorate a few days before Christmas and take everything down on New Year's Day.
Definitely need pics from everyone! I promise to post mine.

I always put away by Jan. 6th at the latest, earlier depending on my work schedule. To each her own of course, but I can’t stand leaving things up much after than. And I don’t like out-of-season displays.
There’s house we drive by all the time. They do these massive Halloween displays. 15’ (probably) skeletons, a dragon, a spider the size of a compact SUV. And various other things. I’m not exaggerating. They have a big yard.
Anyway, last year (this year!) they didn’t put away those damn Halloween decorations until Easter.
Glad they aren’t on our street.

It would be nice but we have a lot of those porcelain trees with different colored plastic inserts in the shape of birds, etc., already. We have a Peanuts Charlie Brown tree somewhere and a complete Peanuts manger set. We have Christmas light for outside and we have a few vintage decorations made of tin (?) for the front rock garden.
So, no. We won't buy an actual tree. We wouldn't have many decorations to put on it, we don't have room for it, it would be a lot of work for me and I'm already swamped.
I wish!

Random comment: I took these photos with my iPhone. When you go to edit a photo, there’s an “auto” option that tweaks the brightness and contrast, maybe it does some other things. Anyway, I use that option a lot and I used it with some if not all of the photos shared here (I can’t remember).
But look at photo number four. I’m sure I used the auto edit for that one, and look at how the Yamaha logo really pops. There was no light source behind me, although the lettering is brass and I polished all the brass when I first bought the piano (so about 5 years ago).
I’m sure there are editing options where you can bring out or brighten one spot in a photo but I’ve never tried to figure out how to use them. Still, as a piano lover, this is a not unwelcomed result

We put up our tree last night.

Very pretty, both of you! We go out sometime in December and cut one up in the forest south of town ($5 permit). I play our favorite Christmas CD’s and get all nostalgic and sappy about the old ornaments while I decorate - ones from my mom, and the old ones my kids made.
-
@dolmansaxlil That is a gorgeous tree, and I love the tree skirt! Did you make it?
@Jodi I do a Christmas movie rather than a music CD while decorating the tree. Either White Christmas or The Bishop's Wife. I put up the vintage glass ornaments that my Mom bought over the years. Each one is a memory.

@wtg I did! Tula Pink made a line of quilting fabric called Holiday Homies and I thought it was hilarious so made a tree skirt from it. My whole tree is childhood ornaments, pop culture, and ornaments we buy when we travel, so with the silly mish mash this fabric seemed to be a perfect fit!

We have to do three trees, one at home and one at each rental. We will start after Thanksgiving.
I don’t enjoy any of it much.
Humbug!

Lovely trees.
We have two, I put them up with lights and much nearer Christmas our daughters (or MrsA )add the baubles, presents underneath. Pretty dull so far:As kids we had 1960 Pifco nursery rhyme bell-style lights on the table top Christmas tree. Using 5 sets from ebay I made 3 working sets, two for my sisters.
Here's my set in our hallwayMemories.

@Steve-Miller so it’s not a “labor of love,” it’s just a “labor”
@wtg said in Christmas tree?:

That sounds wonderful!
@AndyD very nice!

Every year I wonder if this will be the year we forgo getting a tree. I could have stopped 10 years ago, but my wife is all in. Sigh.
