I bought a wreath with battery operated lights with the intention of putting it on the front door but it says for indoor use only… hmmm. Our porch overhang isn’t that deep, rain would probably get it a bit. Maybe I should get an actual outdoor one?

We will put up the small tree this year as we will be out west again. ButvJanet decorates the house inside and we do lights and a large twinkling snowman outside.

Random comment: I took these photos with my iPhone. When you go to edit a photo, there’s an “auto” option that tweaks the brightness and contrast, maybe it does some other things. Anyway, I use that option a lot and I used it with some if not all of the photos shared here (I can’t remember).

But look at photo number four. I’m sure I used the auto edit for that one, and look at how the Yamaha logo really pops. There was no light source behind me, although the lettering is brass and I polished all the brass when I first bought the piano (so about 5 years ago).

I’m sure there are editing options where you can bring out or brighten one spot in a photo but I’ve never tried to figure out how to use them. Still, as a piano lover, this is a not unwelcomed result 😄

Very pretty, both of you! We go out sometime in December and cut one up in the forest south of town ($5 permit). I play our favorite Christmas CD’s and get all nostalgic and sappy about the old ornaments while I decorate - ones from my mom, and the old ones my kids made.

@dolmansaxlil That is a gorgeous tree, and I love the tree skirt! Did you make it?

@Jodi I do a Christmas movie rather than a music CD while decorating the tree. Either White Christmas or The Bishop's Wife. I put up the vintage glass ornaments that my Mom bought over the years. Each one is a memory.

@wtg I did! Tula Pink made a line of quilting fabric called Holiday Homies and I thought it was hilarious so made a tree skirt from it. My whole tree is childhood ornaments, pop culture, and ornaments we buy when we travel, so with the silly mish mash this fabric seemed to be a perfect fit!

We have to do three trees, one at home and one at each rental. We will start after Thanksgiving.

I don’t enjoy any of it much.

                            Humbug!

                              Lovely trees.
We have two, I put them up with lights and much nearer Christmas our daughters (or MrsA )add the baubles, presents underneath. Pretty dull so far:

As kids we had 1960 Pifco nursery rhyme bell-style lights on the table top Christmas tree. Using 5 sets from ebay I made 3 working sets, two for my sisters.
Here's my set in our hallway

Every year I wonder if this will be the year we forgo getting a tree. I could have stopped 10 years ago, but my wife is all in. Sigh.

@RealPlayer so does she make you help? Mr SK's job is to actually put the tree (now trees) up, and then after that, he mostly stays out of my way 😁

@ShiroKuro Well, I go along and help load the tree into and out of the car. I don’t do the decorating though. We have daughters family over on Christmas for dinner and opening presents. Trees are expensive here, easily $75 to $100, esp. if you want Frasier fir. Manhattan is even more expensive.

We get our trees out of the garage 😉
Plastic can be very realistic these days, with convenient swing down perfect branches.
One of ours is vintage Christmas 1990, talk about getting your moneys worth.

@ShiroKuro Well, I go along and help load the tree into and out of the car.

Ooh, that is a lot of work!

Trees are expensive here, easily $75 to $100, esp. if you want Frasier fir. Manhattan is even more expensive.

I have no idea how much a real tree costs around here, but I bet it’s similar.

We’ve always used an artificial trees. First in Japan, where you couldn’t get live trees. And then now here in the U.S. Then each time we move, I donate the old tree and use that as an excuse to get a new (bigger!) one.

The current trees we have look much nicer and more realistic than any others we’ve had before. also the lights are better.

I resisted the urge, however, to buy the most expensive tree at Lowe’s, the one with twice as many lights as all the others. The tree we bought is 7.5 feet and has (IIRC) 800 lights, the one I didn’t buy had 1400 lights. It was also more than twice as expensive!

I make up for the lack of lights with the number of ornaments. 😁

I’ve been collecting red and gold ornaments since 2008, the year we moved back to the U.S. (I gave away all the ornaments we had in Japan.) Every year since then I’ve been buying another package or two (or four). Then last year, my mother decided she didn’t want to have a big tree anymore, so she gave me hers (including some we’ve had since I was a child). This year I had enough ornaments to do the new tree and the pencil tree in the piano room.

And I bought some of those ornament cases they sell at Target (I already had some that Mr SK made for me) so when we put everything away, I’m going to try to count and see how many I have. My guess is that the big tree has close to 300 ornaments on it, and the smaller one maybe has about 100.

These new cases should make it easy to count, so I’ll come back and post the number in January when we put everything away. 😅

Actually the “ornament density” doesn’t look all that impressive, at least not in this photo. Maybe next year I can buy some of the smaller ones and start filling in all the “holes.” Mr SK is convinced I’m going to end up causing the tree to crash down under the weight of them all. 😆
