Interesting fan installation

Another house in my town. That ceiling fan???

The rest of the house is a mixed bag. Gorgeous original millwork with built-ins. But also some weird chopped up spaces.

Seeing that fan would make me suspect that everything in that house is a hack.

Same thought crossed my mind.

@Steve-Miller and @wtg yep.
Based on my experience with the first house we bought, which we loved but was very the victim of an idiot DIYer, I was very aware of those kinds of sketchy things when house hunting this time around.
Our new house has not yet yielded any of those, and at this point, I donβt think there are any.
We are very grateful to the previous owners and their loving β and smart β care and maintenance of this house!

I'm not sure what I'm looking at. Is that fan cord and plug connected to a surface mounted receptacle on the ceiling? In looking at other pictures, I don't see evidence of generally suspect workmanship. I might ask why it was installed that way, but it by itself wouldn't frighten me too much.
