Tornado!
-
Glad to hear it!
-
Wow Steve! Glad you're ok!
-
Holy cow. Glad you are ok! (And that car photo )
-
Glad the damage missed you. That front brought some wind along with heavy rain and thunderstorms to our area, but nothing compared to what has been posted about the Cleveland/Lorain region.
That car balanced on its nose was very peculiar.

Glad all are ok. Janet gets more worried about them than I do. I am more concerned driving the freeway in town.
-
Climate change? Phooey, it's only a little wind... or a little rain... or fires...
-
24 hours later, several surrounding towns are still without power. That means everyone is traveling to Hooterville for groceries and restaurants.
I’ve never seen crowds like these!
-
5 miles away is where you want to keep those. Glad you are ok.
-
Our friends who live about 5 miles north of us still don’t have power, and neither does the big shopping center where Home Depot and Costco are. Jack’s daycare is also without power and it looks like we’ll be seeing a lot of him.
They’ve brought in repair crews from all over the country but even with the extra manpower Ohio Ed. estimates it will be 8/14 before power is restored.
-
It turns out the 8/14 estimate is somewhat misleading. That’s the date they expect to have everyone back on line. Most areas will get power way before that.
Some people were reading tge 8/14 text when their power came back on.

You don't have a generator, do you? Portable, I mean...
-
Yes I do. I think this summer I’ll wire in an inlet like you have.
-
Yea, being able to run your refrigerator during an extended outage is nice. And during the winter having the furnace functioning is really helpful. Ice storms can be nasty and take power out for days. We don't get a lot of them but, oh boy, what a pain when you do.
-
My intention was to run in a cord to the furnace if need be but an inlet would be much nicer.
-
We don't end up using that manual transfer switch a whole lot, but it is really nice to have if there's a multi-day outage.
Glad you posted about the power outage, as it reminded me that we haven't run our generator recently. We try to do a test at least every three or four months so we know it will start and run.
-
This is reminding me that we probably need to bite the bullet and get a generator, one this wired in…
-
@ShiroKuro Maybe, but ask around.
Until this latest round of tornados there has not been an extended power outage around here in nearly 30 years.
At this point the juice wouldn’t be worth the squeeze.
-
Same here. We’ve decided a natural gas standby isn’t worth it. Besides the initial cost there’s the annual maintenance. And they can be persnickety performance-wise. We know a number of people who have them and they have had problems with them and they didn’t do the job when they were needed. It’s not a 100 percent reliable solution by any means.
-
Oh wow, ok. I was thinking that wired-in was the way to go.
So if I didn’t get a wired in one, what are the other options that either of you would recommend?
-
BTW re the need (or lack thereof), my thinking is that these kinds of problems are going to become more frequent because of climate change, but otoh, we haven’t really lived in this town (let alone in this house) long enough to have a good sense of it…
