    Residents now homeless.

I feel for these people but PSA-- do not buy in a condo building built in 2015.

I won't consider one that's frame construction. Not only do you have quality issues but in Florida you have rot issues and the two can be related.

These people are released from none of their financial obligations, btw.

So, for many of them, their lives have been ruined.

From what I read it’s an apartment complex so they probably aren’t ruined.

The building owners, on the other hand, probably are. While they in theory have a claim against the building developer the latter probably did the work under a single-purpose LLC and has already been dissolved.

That’s pretty crazy. I wonder what went wrong?

That type of construction is pretty straightforward and hard to screw up.

Sinkhole underneath I wonder? You'd think that would have been explored in site review.

            You are correct, jon.

The same thing does happen with condo building, of course. And, yes, in those cases, owners are released from none of their financial responsibilities. Nightmare.

Very much could be the case.

Leave it to Florida to screw it up.

New built homes being built with a shocking lack of quality control are the rule not the exception here.

There is a plausible theory that new built homes here are designed to fail before a 30 year mortgage can be paid off.

I wouldn't believe it but I see it all the time. Oscar's razor says it's planned obsolescence.

Builders here (and building in the state, I guess) have a scandalous reputation.

They build the homes like matchsticks with things that can't be seen having clear patch up work (once you can look at it) and attract buyers with interior surfaces.

                This is their MO.

I filter out "New Construction" every time I look at listings.
