I’ve been buying Dickie’s socks. They seem to hold up well and I can get them in XL to fit my giant feet.

In the winter I wear darn tough. Best socks ever. Multiple weights and sizes and they keep my feet warm. I’m the summer I wear whatever cotton mens ankle height socks I can find at Walmart. We don’t have many choices for clothing here. I wear a 10.5 - 11 shoe and women’s socks never fit me.

I standardized on Hanes ankle socks.
I get them in bulk -- 20 pairs per pack -- from Target's.

For what it’s worth I also wear Hanes quarter ankle socks (in women’s size) and love them. I order them from Amazon in packs of 10 pairs.

I go to TKMax (TJMaxx) and search through the many many possibilities until I find the rare pairs with padded heels and not made in PRC.

And then I check out the coffee!

I like the idea of padded heels, but I almost never find a pair where the supposedly padded heels actually end up at my heels. Usually the socks are little too long or a little too short so the parts meant to pad the heels end up a little before or behind my actual heels. 🤷

I hate it when my socks feel like they’re turning around on my feet throughout the day! I have are some socks that are made for exercise that are have just the right amount of elasticity that they don’t move around but they’re not tight. I have three pairs but have never been able to find them again to buy more 😕

As for padded socks, they usually make m y shoes feel too snug do I don’t buy them.

Socks are easy really. I have a niece whose feet are thin and large for a female. Sister takes her a hundred miles to a couple of shops that specialise to try shoes on (Oxford & Edinburgh)

No Bombas customers? Frugal crowd.... 😁

I'm tough on socks and haven't had very good luck with Champion or Hanes.

Am going to try Dickies and also the Darn Tough socks that @Jodi mentioned.

Also saw that Wigwam are available on Costco Next. Will take a look at those too.

The beauty of darn toughs is that they are guaranteed for life. If you wear a pair out, you take them where they sell them and get a new pair for free. Wear my socks out in the heel - and so far I’ve only exchanged one pair. (They are not cheap.) they have lots of adorable designs.

I almost always wore REI wool hiking socks before my medical incident. I don't think I actually ever wore a pair out. They treated my feet very well.

Now I have to wear very strong compression support hose that extend up my calf. My wife struggles each morning to get them on me 😬

That sounds a bit of an ordeal.
I wear one, prescribed, made by Mediven. It's toe less but full length (I have a failed valve), and designed to prevent vein development. But they come with a silk sock to help on over the heel.
Guessing yours are much stronger compression.

I get Nike short black socks by the bag. Still have plenty of thick socks for the few days I am in in the cold in Colorado.

How funny, I just ordered socks for the boy less than an hour ago and came here and opened this thread. Hanes on AMZN too.

                                Ever heard of Rohan?

A UK designed top quality brand for half a century, highly recommended if you can order from the States

Rohan socks are expensive, I have one pair of their cheapest 'Alltime'; they fit, they don't move.

Their jackets are also first class and a reasonable price considering the quality; I have two (Brecon/Valen).

$19 for one pair of socks? Yikes!

                                    What makes them worth that?

Darn Tough’s are close to $25 a pair. (But they are worth it because you can get another pair for free when/if they wear out.

@AndyD and @Big_Al Compression socks are a blessing and a curse! I wear them on long flights and they are a godsend. But getting them on and off is a nightmare!

Any advice on how to determine the proper size to get when it comes to compression socks?

For every regular socks, I stuff I get from Target has a pretty large range, like I get a big bag of socks they says "fits shoe sizes 6-12" and be done with it.

Can I play it similarly fast and loose with compression socks too or is there a more exact method to figuring out what size to get when it comes to compression socks?
