Trying to resize an image on my phone using shortcuts. Then I copied in my photos and pasted here.
Question - will posting pictures this way end up costing more to host them here??
-
that's a great photo!!

@Rontuner - I think Ax may have covered the issue regarding storage impacts here.
tl;dr. Storage is money. Less money if you use someone else’s

How to Post Pictures / Graphics
How to post a picture/graphic depends on where the picture/graphic file is stored.
- If the picture/graphic is already hosted on the Internet somewhere, then you can use the "Image Link" tool (at the top of the post composer window, right after the link icon). The code would look like this:
![alternate text](https://www.site.com/link-to-graphics-file)
Posting pictures/graphics using the method above incurs no "hosting cost" for us because the picture/graphic file is hosted somewhere else on the Internet.
- If the picture/graphic file is stored locally on your computer/smartphone/tablet:
-
Use the "Upload Image" tool (at the top of the post composer window, right after the "smiley" icon), which will bring up an interface to let you select a file or select a photo from your device. File size is currently limited to 2 MB.
-
"Drag-and-Drop" : If you are on a desktop/laptop and accessing this forum using a web browser, you can also "drag and drop" your picture/graphics file into the post composer window. File size is currently limited to 2 MB.
We limit the file size because when you post picture/graphic from your computer/smartphone/tablet, a copy of the file is uploaded to and stored on this server. The "2 MB" limit is the default settings that come with this forum software. It can be changed and this community can decide what we want this limit to be, just keep in mind that "storage" eventually translates to "hosting cost" (and "backup storage cost") for this forum.

Oh, and nice pic!

That was on the way to choir taken out the car window last week - lined up right with Navy Pier!

@Rontuner
What are those cruise shippy-looking things off to the left? -
Edit - I guess that just links to instagram…. Doesn’t work as a host?
This is off of instagram to see if that works?
There are lots of tourist ships that leave from the pier. Evening dinner cruises are popular with the sun setting behind the city skyline. -
Can’t see it. If you use the full edit screen instead of Quick Reply, you have a Preview pane next to what you’re typing in. Lets you experiment without posting and hen having to edit repeatedly if things don’t look right.
-
Take a look at Ax’s post. Looks like you need some different code around the pic link to get it to embed.
-
I was hoping that I could use Instagram or Facebook to host pictures since I post there anyway. I just haven't gotten comfortable with the regular image hosting sites. If images are going to end up costing, is it worth considering having a time limit for how long they last here? Kindof the "housecleaning" that we had to do on the other site?
-
I think it can be done. I'll look into it. Will get back to you regardless.
-
Directly from Instagram.
-
Hmm. I tried using the image icon. Must've missed some step.. Although it looks like yours uploaded to here as an image so will be using storage?
-
From a laptop:
See the Quick reply button? Just to the right are double arrows that take you to a full editing screen.
Takes you here. Circled icon allows you to embed the photo.

I used the icon for posting your pic. eta: Not sure if it's using storage. I pretty much followed Ax's instructions and he says it doesn't. Maybe what we're seeing is just a pointer to Instagram and not a downloaded image using storage.
The two screen shots I used in my lousy explanation are copied/pasted.

Let's try the "drag and drop" images ...
-
@Piano-Dad Well, that worked really easily!
-
Seems to have worked.
Anyone looking for a Sr PPR (Senior Personal Picture Resizer)? I've just lost my job to automation. @Piano-Dad doesn't need me anymore.

@wtg Ahhahahhahhaaahhh!
