Carpet definitely for bedrooms and sitting room comfort.
I reckon when they scrapped the window tax they added the large arch and double windows at the front. The rear is lovely.

It is in a convenient area for Newcastle International Airport, Metro Shopping Centre, A1 motorway.

    Everything but sea access.

Very nice and very well done.

I may be the only one left who likes carpet. Cant wait for it to come back in to style.

      Because it always does.

I like carpet, too. And light, warm colors. Can't wait for black, gray, and LVP floors to be banished to the dustbin of interior decorating.

Our house was built 1961-2. Three years ago when my younger sister looked around upstairs, she pointed down, grinned, and said "That's your bedroom carpet".

And so it was, as bought by our parents after they were married in 1956 for what became my bedroom, exactly the same carpet is there in our third bedroom; and the landing carpet is of the same date (a smidge older than me😄)
        20250720_075630.jpg

We've chosen new, had quotes, and are about to renew the whole 70sqm of upstairs as the other 3 bedrooms' carpets we think are from the late 70's. As is the 37sqm sitting room.

Or we could just go on a luxury months 🛳 cruise

P.S. New carpet upstairs will be mid warm brown with burgandy flecks.

I love carpet but no shoes and vacuum daily.

I've lived mostly in the sub-tropics and tropics so to avoid mold I've developed a love of tile too.

Terrazzo is my favorite type of flooring. Beautiful craftsman. No grout. Can be cleaned to perfection.

No cruises imho! They ruin the environment, serve as disease incubators, and people are always falling into the ocean and being left for dead!

Living in Hawaii for almost twenty years made me loathe them.

But to each her or his own. Jet planes aren't exactly good for the environment and I've spent almost a lifetime flying on them.

The house in the OP is the pick of the litter in the neighborhood.

It reminds me of a New England colonial although I don't know why.

I like carpet, it's nice under the feet! The carpet in our bedrooms here was done really nicely, there must be a good pad under it as well, because it's very nice and cushiony. We stretch on the floor and Mr SK always says it's so comfortable, he could sleep there.

                OTOH, there's this:

                alt text

Which is not the kind of carpet I would like... 😄

I would like wall to wall wool carpet with no pile if I lived in a cold climate.

                    LVP floors

I love the look of real wood but for practical reasons I prefer LVP.

Our floors are laminate made to look like wood. Any hard floor in this climate is good enough.

So you you may have heard the gleeful cries of hallelujah even as far away as the colonies when the last tack went in our carpets upstairs.

@andyd that must have been so much work! Not like for just a square room! So are all your renovations done, or do you have another project going on?

Yes it was, 100sqm of carpet for 4 bedrooms & landing, with 5 new oak doors. It has however transformed our upstairs into a clean comfortable area; we're now rationalising furniture.

A few remaining things are major and require professionals & money, but there are quite a few small things for me to do.
Latest to do list... The sitting room carpet is beyond my limits (concrete floor, long join needed)

The shades are a modern Tiffany imitation, 3 bulb.

I was going to say I love the light fixtures. I didn't see it was reproduction Tiffany. I love the dragonfly motif. It is among my favorite animal motifs along with geckos, frogs, and beetles.

                                        Well done!
