My uncle, a retired cop, put it this way to me once. "I'd rather have you THINK I'm an asshole, then I probably don't have to BE an asshole.". That's exactly what we're seeing here.

Protest peacefully, do not impede the movements of your fellow citizens and don't assault officers and you'll be fine.

What a stupid threat from a bully. He should get out of law enforcement.

Around here police are telling people that if they break the law they'll be arrested. No crap about killing them.

I don't have recollections of this either way from other states but Florida's sheriffs are big on grandstanding.

A brick, a firebomb, point a gun. Used by rioters who usually cause damage and turn to looting.

All lethal weapons which no police officer ought to have to face.
Reasonable force in response I'd say rubber bullets or real bullets.

No different to those rioting aggressors who stormed the Capitol Building. The guards ought to have shot them in self defense and to protect the elected officials inside.

My youngest would beg to differ, having faced aggressive Colorado police who happily assaulted peaceful people.

My eldest would beg to differ, having faced Border Patrol officers having a good time by threatening them for sport.

Do you think this is a good example of good policing?

We had a retired cop in the family. He was the husband of my Italian American Catholic aunt by marriage. He told me you see all kinds of things in the City. He mentioned floors that failed to completely hide body parts. He was an affable person who never lacked a story to tell.

I'd say that might well be an example of what I was talking about. I can't tell because I don't have any context for each event. Are there cops that are a-holes? Sure. I've run into a couple, most notably in LA.

I'd venture to say I've had considerably more interactions with police than most anyone here and certainly in more adversarial situations. With the exception of the LA cops, if I was non-confrontational I was treated quite well.

Again, not enough information to tell from that clip. If he was shooting at the reporter, certainly not, but there is an inherent risk when you put yourself in such volatile situations.

Peaceful protests in LA got out of hand when police escalated.
