FEMA has given us $5,100 for "damage to roof and incidental household repairs." Translation- for a new roof.

Ours is visibly damaged and there are three leaks- over the range, over the casement window opposite my bedroom, and under the window in my bedroom.

They didn't develop until at least a month after Milton but are clearly because of the room damage.

We researched the types of roofs available to mobile home owners, two grades of a commercial plastic processes, two grades of shingles, rubber, and metal.

We should have enough for the best type of commercial plastic process called TPO.

I have a liscenced contractor coming on Monday. I'm very clear about who these people are and the kind of work they do... I'm strongly leaning toward signing if I can afford them.

The one thing I don't know is if new gutters would be included or how much they would cost.

This is almost like a miracle. I thought they would only give $750, the application process was 90 days, they didn't send an inspector and denied it anyway, the reapplication process was up to 90 days.

Milton happened so long ago I'd have to Google the date.

Our house will be more stable because the roof is an integral part of its stability and shouldn't leak for the rest of our lives.

    We'll see.

Good luck, Daniel! Roofing is one of those expenses that is important, but you don’t really see. We re-roofed several years ago, and it just looks like we have a roof, no big change. But we needed it.

Thanks! It rained all day and the three leaks that developed about a month after Milton (October 9) but were a direct result of it were anxiety provoking. The rain stopped a couple hours ago and it's forecast to be dry for days. We'll see.

So the estimate was $5,900. I negotiated the price to $5,250 for cash, 50% down. I wanted to finalize it, but Jim insisted on getting two more estimates.

I think he might be right. I decided to let him finish this with my one criterion being it will be a TPO technology roof.

                  Excited!
