Road Trip!
-
Planning a road trip in March, to include the travel trailer and my friend Ron of some 50 years. We’re planning something like a month. The idea is to head south, as freezing temps will destroy the plumbing in the trailer.
Sharon is cool with this, in fact she’s supportive. The flip explanation is that she’ll be glad to get rid of me for a month but the fact is that she knows how much I despise this place and wants me to be happy. We’ve been married nearly 50 years. This is why. She’s amazing.
The plan is to fly Ron from Tucson to CLE and start from here. Head south from CLE, probably toward Texas. Maybe hit SXSW. Area 51? Hatch? We did White Sands on the last trip. Awesome but it’s been done!
California, certainly. My Bro, his Sis. Our friends from days gone by, including our high school buddy who is dying from cancer. Have to stay near the ocean and at least a night in the low desert where we spent so many weekends riding dirt bikes.
Not sure we can work in SFO. I want to go just for the sourdough bread but it’s way out of the way. Might be worth it. Maybe a northern route home - by April the temps should be warmer. Wouldn’t mind seeing Portland one last time, same for relatives in Seattle.
They buy, and serve, wines by the case. This has to be good.
So - suggestions? What do we need to see? Truck seats six and trailer sleeps the same. Wanna join us?
None of us are getting any younger.

I didn't know you hated Cleveland, but I can't say I'm terribly surprised. The transition from LA/San Diego to Ohio was hard for me when I moved back. i can only imagine what it must be like for you.
If you go through St. Louis, I've always wanted to see the Cahokia Mounds. Ancient Indigenous site. If yo do get up to Oregon, we like Cannon Beach, and of course Portland is arguably one of the most beautiful cities in America.
There's always the southern Utah and northern Arizona sites, which we will take in at Christmas - Sedona, Petrified Forest, Painted Desert, Beringer Crater, Flagstaff, St. George and Cedar City Utah. If you go through Amarillo keep your eyes peeled for the Cadillac Ranch. Somehow we missed it last time even though we had it on GPS. Id already seen it a couple times.

And Mary Anna has mentioned them in one of her Faye Longchamp mysteries!

That’s interesting, I don’t think of Portland as a beautiful city. Although there are all those bridges on the Willamette River.
But I do agree that Cannon Beach is wonderful! It’s a great little town, and the tide pools at Haystack Rock are very cool.

I’ve been to Portland twice and it’s indeed a beautiful city. The Japanese garden is the finest I’ve ever seen.
I also like the way they handle traffic. No left turns. If you want to turn left you make three right turns.

I haven’t been to Zion since 1969. I’d like another look for sure!
