Please watch about 2 or 3 minutes about a Bosch dishwasher.
This has to be fake, but it it's not, it's around the corner.
Can you image all of this complexity, expense, and surveillance- and what you would get out of it is- the ability to hit the start button on a dishwasher?
I lean toward this being real or a type of prototype template because I know for a fact that all new cars starting model year '27 will have a camera pointed at the driver's face and a kill switch. I'm not making this up.
I've owned a few Bosch dishwashers. You bought at Sears. They were somewhat more expensive than the other dishwashers Sears sold, but the difference was nothing in retrospect to the cost of living today. They washed the dishes. I didn't have to do anything to dirty dishes, pots, pans, etc. and they would end up spotless.
I have a dishwasher. It's new. It's the lowest price point model Lowes sells. So, you prepare the dishes, run them, and then hand wash everything that came out dirty.
I have a double basin sink and hand wash my dishes.
No way I would ever bring something like that into my house. Anything that says I need to download an app for my phone is an immediate no unless it's for security reasons (or I decide to use it without the app). I have downloaded only one app and it's so I can do 2-factor authentication. Almost anything one buys now with electronics in it comes with an app that will "enhance" one's experience. B.S.
Hearing him talk about how they "need" a dishwasher is interesting from the perspective of how technology affects and changes our lives. If a dishwasher was not available, they would find ways to make it work. Probably creative ways, like have each child over--I don't know, maybe 9 years old?--wash one or two of the dishes they used at dinner. This is good for the children, too, and doesn't take but a few minutes for each child. I wish the mindset that we "need" everything was less entrenched in society. Also, an hour and a half to do dishes for 7 people? That ain't right.

No rule has actually been finalized. NHTSA reported to Congress in early 2026 that the system cannot currently measure blood alcohol content above 0.08%, the very thing it's meant to do, and NHTSA openly admitted there is no commercially available technology that can accurately and passively detect driver impairment.  
Even a 99.9%-accurate system would generate millions of false positives a year across the US fleet, which NHTSA flagged as a serious problem. 
Automakers typically get a multi-year compliance window once (if) a final rule is published, so even in the best case, "universal 2027" was never realistic. 
Consumer Reports directly addressed the viral version of this claim: "2027 model year cars are not going to have any mandatory technology that can determine if you're intoxicated, and there's no such thing as a government-controlled 'kill switch.'" 
It's also not a remote kill switch — the law doesn't authorize the government to shut your car down; any restriction would be decided entirely by the car's own onboard software, not a person flipping a switch somewhere. 
So: there's a real 2021 law aimed at this, but as of 2026 no finalized standard exists, the tech isn't ready, and no camera-plus-kill-switch mandate is landing on all model-year-2027 cars. Your friend's got the kernel of a real story wrapped in an exaggerated, socially-viral version of it. -

The whole thing is pretty unnecessary, tbh, with or without the app.

I wonder if you can change the setting and then disconnect from wifi. If you're like us you only use one setting. I'm guessing we could probably use it without the app at all; we don't do a lot of custom settings.
In any event, our friends at Abt have added a "no wifi" filter to their search. There are no Bosch models that don't have wifi.

@realplayer I am pining for a traditional coffee pot. There are a million used ones floating around. I want to buy mine new. Farberware brand it is? I think. It will keep the coffee I made hot. I've wanted to hit the "buy now" button more than once.
I hope I'll have it eventually.
It has no software. It has no camera watching you, and it's not recording your voice.
Bonus.
However, I use a French press. I like it.
Pros- Fast, Inexpensive
Cons- Not many are insulated. Glass breaks. Coffee has to be made each time you want a cup, or you have to microwave what's left (or bring it to a simmer?. Not inexpensive if you break the glass. Being made now with glass too thin for purpose

@Daniel You can get insulated cosies for French presses. I made my own with an insulating inner filling and it works great. Keeps my morning brew hot enough til I've finished it.
