Are our Chicago friends staying safe?

Big line of storms came through. Tornados south of the metro Chicago area. I think there were some pretty big storms up near the Wisconsin border. My area, northwest of the city, just got some rain. Last night was worse, with some pretty significant winds. Some nice weather coming our way for the next few days.

Lots of damage around the city - I've seen videos of trees down, things flying off buildings and even multiple windows broken out on some high rises. Tornado sirens must have gone off because I can see on the group chat from our building that people were wondering if they should head out to the hall or down to the basement. (When every Midwesterner knows that's the time to go out or up on the roof and see how bad it really is outside!!)
We are out of town so missing it all.

Tornadoes are the worst. They worry me more than hurricanes. I've experienced one. It was a calm day and all of a sudden the wind was moving 60 mph down the street. It took a lot of pieces of mobile homes and trees with it. Inside was the place to be. A mobile home in a park opposite mine had a house lift off its foundation and land flipped upside down in the middle of the street. An old woman was in the mobile home finding her cat as it was tossed into the air. They both walked out alive. I haven't found a combination of a sudden, seemingly random weather event, with the kind of with this level of violence. They happen routinely here but not often.
