We rescued a pair of binoculars from the house of a friend who was moving to assisted living. They had the sticky rubber problem. We checked around and decided to try cleaning the rubber with a well-worn microfiber cloth soaked with rubbing alcohol. Took the stickies right off. We gave away the binoculars, so I don't know if the fix was lasting, or if the rubber just got sticky again.

@wtg nice, I'll have to try that! @Mark maybe even if it's temporary, this fix will let you use your Zoom?

@ShiroKuro Try a tiny test spot first and see what happens. With the binoculars, they cost us nothing and were so bad that they were basically unusable, so we figured "what the heck". Your Zoom H is probably more valuable.

Be sure to use as lint-free a cloth as possible.

edit: There seem to be a bunch of YT videos you can check out to get a preview of what happens.

My Zoom H is fine (as far as I know, I haven't taken it out of the box in a while! 😄 But it doesn't have a lot of rubber-y plastic IIRC, so I think it's ok)

I have several mechanical pencils that have those rubber-y grips that have gone sticky. I didn't throw them out because they're my favorite kind of pencil and apparently not made any more. So if I can find them (I think I know where they are) I'll try this!

Lovely. I didn't really notice warts at all. I thought the articulation was excellent. The sustain at the end was a tribute to your instrument.

@ShiroKuro are you able to pedal, after your most recent injuries? Hoping yes!

                    Thank you @Marchant and @Big_Al 🙂

@Big_Al I love this piano, and that sustain always makes me happy! 🙂 And thank you for your nice comments about my articulation!

are you able to pedal, after your most recent injuries?

So, my long-term problem is with my right foot, but since I got out of the boot, I've been able to pedal -- and the doc even said as long as it doesn't hurt, and esp. because it's not weight-bearing, that the movement of pedaling is good because it encourages blood flow. Luckily! 🙂

The foot with this most recent injury is the left foot, which I use to turn pages, and I actually was thinking it's lucky that I made this recording before I broke my toe, because now I can't do page turning for a while.

I sort of think I'll probably be able to do page-turn pedaling before it's fully healed, but I'll wait until my follow up appointment and consult before I try it.

Right now I wouldn't even want to try, I'm sure it would hurt!

But again, luckily that just page-turning.

When my ortho first told me that he suspected I would eventually need surgery, that would be on the right foot, I of course immediately thought about piano. ... 12 weeks of Bach? What else can you play with no pedal??

I can't play anything with no pedal!
                    😄

The alcohol and micro fiber cloth worked great! I let it sit overnight and it is still good to go!

Smooth as the day I bought it. Even if i have to do this every year or two, it's worth the effort.

                      Thank you wtg!
